I may as well say why I have blueberries on my shoulder. My sweet little ride appears to be a total loss after an accident this afternoon. I'm on high-powered Motrin and a muscle relaxer to help me through the pain.

Ouch. Sorry about that, but if it's just pain, it sounds like it could have been much worse.

I'm really sorry to hear that 'ocn, but if it's a total loss then it could have been a lot worse for you. Glad to hear you're alright.

Thanks, folks.

Sorry to hear that 'bout the car not you. So glad your OK & healing up take care man

like everyone else says, the important thing is that you're okay. cars are replaceable, lives aren't.

Very sorry ... glad YOU are OK, though. Cars can be replaced; people can't.

I was on a 4-lane section of suburban road returning to work from lunch, behind a minivan. We stopped at a light. When we took off, the driver's speed leveled off at or below 30 mph, in a 35 zone on a clear day. I could see his hand up to his ear... he was on his cell phone, drifting along. I went to pass him on a broken white line... not seeing a Dodge Nitro stopped, waiting to turn left. Not even time to hit the brake, I whipped the wheel to the right too late. I hit her right rear corner. The left front half, including the door, is pretty much sheared off my car. Minivan driver grazed my rear bumper as I spun around in the opposite direction of travel and came to rest. Head curtain and seat airbag went off, but not the steering wheel, as the impact was outboard of my frame rail. Left side of bumper, headlight, hood, radiator support, apron, complete suspension, wheel/tire, axle, front quarter glass, door, hinge pillar are all beyond repair. Left rear door has damage from the EMTs prying my door open to get me out, plus it bounced off the quarter panel in the impact. Roof has a buckle at the left B-pillar... and the aforementioned rear bumper damage.

What a hell of a mess. In the 5 months and 6400 miles I had the car, I was very pleased with it. Now I'm in a state of misery and disappointment over this. I'm trying to take the bad with the good in life, but sometimes it's hard.

Bummer...sorry to hear that. When I first started reading the thread, I thought that bikey from before had come back and run into you.

O.B. Just be glad you're okay. Sounds like your Ford did a good job of protecting you.

Left turn related accidents are usually quite dangerous & very frequent in certain intersections.

So sorry to learn of your accident, the loss of your Ford, and your injuries, Bill. Thankfully you suffered nothing more than bumps and bruises in what could have been a much worse scenario. The car may be lost, but what is more important is that you walked away from this accident with your life. Now I'll pray for a speedy recovery for you, an insurance company that will treat you with respect and fairness in the totalling of your car, and that nothing worse comes out of this situation for you.

Sorry to hear about your accident. It was a nice car but at least it protected you and you escaped serious injury.

I am glad you are safe that is the key.

Thanks everybody. Yeah, this has been a nasty surprise. I felt a bit better today at work, being active. Sitting at home all weekend and taking naps made me feel worse, I think. Doc said moving around will help with the stiffness and soreness. He called it a "chest contusion" on my paperwork. My left shoulder and down the left side of my chest is bruised, yellow. Left side of my neck is still swollen, my collarbone area hurts, I have what appears to be a burn from the seat airbag on my left ribcage, and another black and blue bruise on my right hip from the belt. Like my poor car, I'm a total wreck right now.

Ocn ya sound a bit more banged up than I first read hope you heal up fast. On a bad note my best friend called this morn & short story is his oldest(30's) daughter was in a bike wreck ended up with a shattered femur and lost her leg below the knee. I've known her since she was 5 it's like my kid had this happen. You were blessed and so was she, she has kids. Get well live like there's no tomorrow and let us know your choice on the replacement car. Best wishes Rick

Bill, I'm so sorry. I know you loved that car, and its final act was saving your life. I'm glad you're OK.

So sorry to hear this, but glad you're okay and beat up but not broken. The little Ford did well, as much as it took the beating to a pulp.

Accidents happen, they just are what they are.

How fast where you going at impact? I'm assuming it couldn't have been much more than 35-40, as by your story... I would have expected much less physical injury, considering all the safety equipment.

Hope you're feeling better as soon as possible.

Thanks again, all. No insurance adjuster out to look over the car yet. Hopefully it will be today so this can be settled and they can tow it out, I hate looking at it in that state on our lot.

Left side of neck is still swollen, and I feel as if something's out of alignment in my neck/shoulders. Never been to a chiropractor before, maybe that's what I need. Blah.

Insurance adjuster came by today. It's official: I'll be looking for a replacement vehicle soon. The 5 month old, 6400 mile Fiesta is a total loss. :(

Chiropractors are the healing fingers of Jesus all over your back. I highly recommend.

+1.

I've gone to a chiro periodically since my accident in '94 (hard rear-end collision). That and a massage a couple times a month and an ergonomic chair keeps my back and neck in good working order..

Chiropractors - playing karate with your spine for healing.

Separate but related question, which insurance company are you insured by?

How long of a process now?

My premiums go to Flo. And they said it would be today or tomorrow when I get paid. Of course the bank gets paid first, as it should be. Not sure what the amount left over will be, the car was too new to peg a value easily.

No need for gap insurance. It appears I'll have a decent amount left over after the bank is paid. My next concern is my insurance premiums.

Thanks uncle davey, I do feel better every day. No sudden moves, no coughing or sneezing and I'm almost normal.:)
