August 15, 201114 yr Author This era B-body and G-body is one of the few platforms where I would insist on a coupe and would be unlikely to give a sedan a second glance.
August 15, 201114 yr This reminds me of a story that my mom loves to tell about my dad. When he went and bought the 1979 Olds Delta 88 coupe without consenting with my mom, they were newlyweds at the time, she got furious with him and told him he should of bought a Cadillac instead.
August 15, 201114 yr I saw both of these on Ebay myself and was especially lusting over the Delta 88 coupe. I wish my '79 Delta was in half as good condition as these two are. The 77-79 88 and 98 are actually quite rare to find well maintained. I hope they find a good home, if I had the cash I would have a hard time justifying NOT buying one of them.

August 15, 201114 yr The only really memorable Oldsmobile I owned was my 1964 Super 88 Holiday. Given the chance I'd love to own one of these late 1970s or even early 1980s Oldsmobiles. My first car was supposed to be an '85 Cutlass Supreme 2dr but my parents junked it & I ended up sharing my mom's '95 Sunfire coupe. Up here in N.E. it's gotten really hard to find any sort of BOF Olds, never mind a two door. The ones that do occasionally pop up on Craigslist are usually 75% destroyed s#!tbox & 25% rust-bucket.

August 16, 201114 yr I never felt that Olds was the BOAT Division that was the "my son the Dr.'s" Buick. Olds were always tighter more like Pontiac in their handling. That's why I moved to Olds Lux like a Buick handling like Pontiac w/o all the flashieness less money than a Buick better than Chevy(my first love). I realy wish GM would bring the Zeta's to Chevy long & short WB Wagon & Ute add a Vert Coupe. Not everyone wants an appliance in white with a gray interior. The engines even the v6's will be snappy a good size diesel manual or dual clutch auto would make people forget its not a V8(as would the mpg;-). We harp & moan about this but what do they think will get people who were accustomed to B bodys Lincoln's... that moved on to SUV's while cars got to be smaller FWD & weak (as opposed to truck based products) while the SUV's grew & added all the Lux they wanted in a car. The 1 thing I think that will be hard to wean from these buyers is the height or the illusion there of. Back on topic GM's full size cars held on to their sportiness after the downsizing while the others didn't though the LTD/Crown Vic was good on the skidpad they just looked quite generic Fullsize in their presentation.

My father had an 88 of this era when I was in High school, many fond memories of riding around with a young female in the passenger seat.... FANTASTIC cars, olds...seing these made my day. Sadly, we have devolved quite a bit in car styling since these beauties were built.
August 30, 201114 yr I have fond memories of riding around w/ buddies in high school in cars like these...one buddy had a dark red w/ red velour interior '81 88 4dr, another had a sweet bright red w/ white top and white and red interior '76 Buick Electra 225 coupe...huge interior. Another had a triple silver '80 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham. Dated a girl that had a silver blue w/ dark blue velour interior '81 Bonneville Brougham 4dr, another w/ an '84 Caprice Estate wagon..

Stick a 98 front clip on a Caprice wagon and you have the Custom Cruiser. Also of note, the 77-79 Custom Cruiser used the '77 98 front clip for all 3 years, while the '78 and '79 98's had amber marker lights wrap around the fenders and year specific grilles. September 15, 201114 yr My favorite of the B-bods would be the 77-81 Delta Holiday coupes with rally wheels, bucket seats and sport exteriro mirrors. You could get any engine on the roster and even upgrade the suspension and steering wheel to the sport leather wrapped type as used in the Cutlass Calais. The other is the Bonneville coupe with bucket seat option, 350 V8, rally wheels and suspension upgrade. These were simply the best full sized cars of there era and I still lust after a mint example today.

September 29, 201114 yr Saw a really clean taupe (kind of a tan-purple-gray) '79-85 Eldorado Biarritz in traffic this morning. Haven't seen a nice Riv or Toro from that generation in a long time.
