August 16, 201114 yr Soon the Suburban will be sold and then soon after that (hopefully) I can sell the V12 Mercedes Benz and I will be ONCE again buying yet another vehicle or two, or three.... depending on how things out of my control turn out. --- So here's a quick recap before I continue: --- I've owned / daily driven almost three dozen GM cars over the past 14 years. Mostly big, V8 powered boats from the 1970s & 1980s, one 1968 Camaro, a few Chevrolet trucks, a couple 1960s classics, and one 1950s land yacht with tail fins big enough for a V2 rocket. Then there's a few demolition derby cars: four FoMoCos, two Mazdas & one Volvo 240 Everyone here probably remembers the two Datsun Maximas I owned, (powered by Inline-6, RWD, 5-speed, IRS) And then there's the German stuff. So far I have owned three BMWs, one [e32] 735iL and two 3-series [both e30 chassis cars] Mercedes Benz has definitely become my favorite marque as of late. Not in general, that would still be Cadillac as far as favorite brand EVER, but M.B. is a very close second. I've now owned six Mercedes cars - Two W123 sedans: - 1982 240D - diesel - 1982 300D - turbo diesel Two W126 coupes - 1984 500SEC hardtop coupe (303 cubic inch, 5.0 liter SOHC, aluminum V8 with mechanical fuel injection) - 1991 560SEC hardtop coupe (same basic motor, just 5.6 liters, or 339 cubic inches) One W124 sedan - 1993 300E - this was powered by the silky smooth 'm104' DOHC inline six motor and who could forget the W140 with the TWIN SIX (two m104 inline-6 motors fused at the crank = m120 V12) That car is a 1992 MB 600SEL - the BIG, LONG beast that is used by billionaires & kings as means of travel. I have had the best luck by far with my Mercedes Benz purchases, even the two W123 diesels which cost me $500 & $600 respectively and had over 600,000 miles between the two of them I did not have one single major repair. No crappy "rubber band" timing belts, they are / were all chain driven, like any / every proper car should be! All RWD with an overbuilt chassis built using virgin steel for construction & durable engine, transmission, rear end, suspension etc. So now I'm going to be buying ANOTHER car, #62 if I got my count right.... something like that anyway. Here's my top three choices: 1. 1994 Chevrolet Caprice Classic sedan (just over 100k miles) ~ asking $1600 2. 1989 BMW 635Csi [needs some work] ~ $1200 3. 1985 Mercedes Benz 500SEC with bad motor $1000 + W126 turbo diesel parts car for another $1000 + a LOT of work to make one car out of two crippled ones. 4. 1983 Cadillac Seville Bustleback with the 8-6-4 ~ $1700 5. (as yet to be found) 1980 - 1991 solid & decent M.B. 300SDL - not an SD, it has to be an SDL, if I give up on getting a 2dr hardtop it better be the BIG, LONG sedan. August 16, 201114 yr Caprice or 500SEC, as long as you promise to make the 500SEC run on veggie oil. Personally I think all cars should emit exhaust fumes that smell like french fries.
