Why don't you do a project car as opposed to buying something "new" for you vehicle with the greater "mechanical" feel...?

I always think of you for some reason when I think of this thing. Not usually into lowered trucks but I like this one for some odd reason....

Of course, you could always roll with something more old skool...wid de rims...

Or here is an old Hilux truck I saw in a historical neighborhood in Columbus the other day....

Or ever thought of doing a full resto?

There is a cool 2000 Sonoma extended cab stepside ZQ8 in bright blue at the local Chevy dealer traded in...

Something like that Nova would be awesome yo, but without the giant rims. It's out of the mainstream so it will be cheap, and with a mild smallblock and 4-speed, it would be reliable enough not to be a constant headache...

As for the Hilux, it can continue to return to the Earth as iron oxide... ;)

Or get a convertible and modify it slightly...this showed up at the last autocross, guy is changing it into an Opel clone...

I think Cash or small loan, paid for, and truck for weekend camping would suit your life style really well...and get you out of the constant cycle of buying cars. Now if GM only built something half car, half truck, sold it through Chevrolet and kept it inexpensive, and gave it a cool sounding name to make it sound like it came from California...El Camino Maybe....

It's a good idear, but living on one income and wanting so many things out of life collide with great force, it seems.

GMC Granite pickup, AWD, 1.4L turbo, six speed manuel...

It's a curse, I tell you. I've allowed my everyday need to outweigh my dirty little wants.

Dirty little wants should be dirty little cheap, my friend. My wife's cousin put a bunch of money into a Mustang, drag raced it, and decided that eleven seconds of yee haw wasn't very fun. He bought an inexpensive Cherokee, modded it lightly, and wheels the piss out of it every weekend. Total investment in the Jeep is less than $3500 including tires, it doubles as a daily driver for him, and he's had wicked fun with it.

Biggest thing Blu is that I've always thought you had some un used automotive creativity that could be brought out...these numbers are on the side of my friend Chucks car....but creatively done.

I've always wondered what you would do given a little creative licence....

Or find a two door, wagon or convertible version of this old Olds and make it a weekend cruiser....

...or make some new friends and get involved in competition...this rollbar... is in...

this 'Bird...runs on the strip an auto crosses...you could have way to much fun with this thing...or something like it.

Picture139.jpg

This thing is way to far gone....but find an old VW and fix it up...parts are cheap...you work in a bodyshop....the VW guys are a great group of guys...half the fun of anything automotive is making new friends...

Or find an interesting 80's car and continue to preserve it...this Shelby showed up at our last autocross, but a c4 Corvette or a Fiero would be cheap and right up your alley, I think.

Or try something European...saw the little Alfa project car....these are available dirt cheap, and are astonishingly fun. Ask me about small roadsters some time when you've got three hours to kill....

One last thought...old BMW's are cheap, and fun....provided you get a good one.

I too was thinking of you ocnblu the past two days while perusing Hershey. A lot of Corvairs of all kinds were available for sale, ranging from '60 all the way up to the end ('69). Coupes, hard-top sedans, post sedans, vans (but no pickups). Everyone I crossed paths with I thought to myself, "Bill would love this one". And it went on and on throughout the two days

DARN IT, I should have gone! I hope you guys took some photos. Please post them if you did.
