January 4, 201214 yr * With the start of 2012, I'm renewing efforts to "keep alive" a generation-specific Monte Carlo board & a generation-specific MC group. 3rd GEN MC BOARD I quietly re-launched the 3rd gen MC (1978, 1979, 1980) forum, November 2010... http://thirdgenmontes.proboards.com/index.cgi With Sean's death after the 2008 MC Nationals, third generation MCs lost their unique "voice" on the web, becoming the only MC generation without its own active/running message board or group at that time. Just over 2 years later, August 2010, I finally took the time to investigate switching ownership of the board from Sean to me. I completed the process just over a month later (September 2010) & started work on some tweaks to the board. A month later, October 2010, I finalized the initial tweaks & shared personal notices that the board was re-opened. During 2011, the forum has seen a few new members, but no real "traffic". Maybe it won't ever again see many posts or active members. That's OK; at least I can say I'm trying to keep it alive for 3rd gen owners. I'm still somewhat apprehensive about this venture for MANY reasons, but, for now, each MC generation has its own message board/group. Please accept this invitation to check out the forum & join. Be sure to read the "3rd gen facts" in the NewsLine. 6th GEN GROUP In August 2011, Rob (owner of the 6th gen Yahoo Group) announced that he had sold his car & was looking for someone to take over the group, noting in part: "I started this group 11 years ago (WOW!) shortly after getting my brand new 2K SS. ... My hope is that someone steps up to keep or improve on the quality of this group. If not, I may switch the settings to unmoderated." Then, another member posted a "thank you" thread to Rob, stating: "You did a really great job holding this group together over the years. I remember very well when we started as an Edmunds thread. There were so many responses that you opted, wisely so, to start a Yahoo! group. A very good idea. " I replied to that thread, telling Rob that I'd be willing to take over, if he didn't find anyone else. To my surprise, Rob's reply came ~2 hours later: "Thanks Cort. You are the person I had in mind! I'll make you the group owner and I hope you can build on what we have already done. I know this group isn't nearly as active as it once was, but I really don't want to see it die. There is a lot of useful information here." And, with that, I took over ownership of the 6th gen Y2K Yahoo Group: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/y2kmontecarloclub/ I've made a few slight changes. KUDOS to Joe G (montess2k) for working his magic on a NEW picture that should be available & appear on the group's main page soon! Please take a look &, if inclined, please join us. Like the 3rd gen board, this group has not seen much activity lately & may never again. We'll see. January 4, 201214 yr I think all G body 1978-88 RWD Monte Carlos would be Gen 3. The '81-88 was a reskin, not a whole new car.
January 10, 201214 yr Author Drew ... sent ya a note on FB. Hope all is OK. Chic ... Most of us in the MC community regard the 1978-1980 and 1981-1988 as 2 different generations. Granted, parts ARE interchangeable, but you can't put a '78-'80 fender or hood or trunk lid on an '81-'88.... * UPDATES... ...3rd GEN BOARD has a few new members & some activity! ...6th GEN GRP has the new home page picture in place! January 18, 201214 yr Author * AND... ...I need time to review the board & group (along w/other places I moderate) to "clear out" things no longer needed or links to be removed/changed/corrected. That'll happen...eventually. 3rd GEN BOARD FEATURE Have you seen this 1979 MC commercial? http://thirdgenmontes.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=comm&action=display&thread=120 I added it about a year ago.
