February 13, 201214 yr William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com February 13, 2012 Back at the 2010 Paris Motor Show, Jaguar rolled out a magnificent supercar concept called the C-X75. Carrying design cues from the early 90’s XJ220, the C-X75 had a trick up its sleeve. The powertrain was a range-extended electric vehicle using two 95 HP micro gas turbines to recharge the lithium-ion battery packs, which in turn would power the four electric motors mounted in each wheel. Many wondered if Jaguar was to produce the C-X75 if the powertrain would be retained. Last year, Jaguar announced the C-X75 would go into production, minus the turbines. Jaguar said to bring the C-X75 within a reasonable timeframe, they would instead go towards hybrid powertrain with a turbocharged four-cylinder. The powertrain would be worked on by Jaguar and Williams F1. Now, Jaguar is saying a small number of the C-X75s being built will come with the turbine powertrain. The turbines will come from Bladon Jets Engineering Centre in Coventry, which is based very close to Jaguar’s headquarters and is partially owned by parent company Tata. February 13, 201214 yr Good even if experimental this will give data that will prove or disprove the fuel savings and turbines can burn about any kind of fuel to boot. Now is it the turbine or tinnitus? Edited February 13, 201214 yr by 67impss
February 13, 201214 yr SWEET, this is very cool! I cannot wait to see this car on a test drive at the track.
February 13, 201214 yr It doesn't have DOHC which is what all the Germans are doing and they are the bestest at everything so this automatically must suck. If cars were meant to have turbines, BMW or Mercedes would have invented it first.
February 15, 201214 yr Awesome for sure. What's better than a V8 or V12, a jet turbine! Even the guy with the Veyron bragging about his quad turbo V16, can be trumped by the Jaguar owner that is like oh yeah, check it out, jet engine turbines.
February 15, 201214 yr "What powers your SLS AMG?" "A V8 of course" "That's cool, that's cool" "What powers that pussy cat?" "Oh this? Well I'll tell you what it's not powered by. The sort of pedestrian engine the common Mustang has. It's a Jet engine motherf@#ker."
