February 16, 201214 yr Without Binging or googling or any other search engine or GM web site used, I wonder how many here could anyone name for Caddy? STS = DTS = CTS = XLR = ATS = SRX = XTS = ELR = EXT = ESV = Is there any others I have missed?
February 16, 201214 yr So are we looking for alternative names, the meaning of, or just watch vehicles the names belong to?
February 16, 201214 yr STS = Seville Touring Sedan DTS = Deville Touring Sedan CTS = Catera Touring Sedan XLR = R is for Roadster ATS = no "name" associated SRX = no "name" associated XTS = no "name" associated ELR = Electric Roadster EXT = Escalade Truck ESV = Escalade Suburban
February 16, 201214 yr Author I am looking for what the actual acronym stands for. I actully started thinking about this and realized I only new a couple and wonder if anyone really knows the actual names these 3 letter stand for.
February 16, 201214 yr Does ATS stand for Alpha Touring Sedan? i think It's just another letter, like XTS dfelt ______ touring sedan CTS ______Luxury roadster XLR ______ crossover SRX is what i think they are
February 16, 201214 yr STS = Seville Touring Sedan originally DTS = DeVille Touring Sedan originally CTS = Cadillac Touring Sedan XLR = nothing ATS = Alpha Touring Sedan SRX = Soft Road Crossover XTS = Extreme Touring Sedan ELR = nothing EXT = Extended ESV = Escalade Sport Vehicle ?
February 16, 201214 yr Author From the CadillacForum.com People there are stating that the ELR = Extended Long Range. Not sure if this is true as I could not find anything on the GM web site to confirm or deni this.
February 16, 201214 yr I'd think that XLR was "something something Roadster." Also, SLS = Seville Luxury Sedan DHS = Deville ??? Sedan
February 16, 201214 yr I'd think that XLR was "something something Roadster." Also, SLS = Seville Luxury Sedan DHS = Deville ??? Sedan Probably eXtreme Luxury Roadster or eXtra Luxury Roadster. I don't remeber DHS even existing..
February 17, 201214 yr There is also the POS, I mean BTS, the short lived sedan on the 9-3 Epsion platform. And BTS stood for Below The Standard. Edited February 17, 201214 yr by smk4565
February 17, 201214 yr I'd think that XLR was "something something Roadster." Also, SLS = Seville Luxury Sedan DHS = Deville ??? Sedan Probably eXtreme Luxury Roadster or eXtra Luxury Roadster. I don't remeber DHS even existing.. I believe DHS was supposed to mean Deville High-level Sedan or maybe high luxury. It was sold 2000-2005 as the luxury trim of the Deville and it had the bench seat. The DTS had sporting credentials, aka floor mounted shifter.
February 17, 201214 yr I've always wondered what the EXT and ESV in Escalade meant... EXT normally means Extended, but the Avalanche-based Escalade EXT really isn't ''extended'', that's what the Escalade ESV is (an extended Escalade). Maybe EXT stands for Escalade Crossover Truck? Maybe ESV stands for Escalade Stretched Vehicle? Would be nice if one of the GM insiders could clue us in on all of these [stupid] acronyms! I'd really like Cadillac to return to names, historical or newly created ones.
February 17, 201214 yr I think I read somewhere the naming scheme worked like this: (First Letter) = Vehicle Series (Second Letter) = Function/Characteristic (Third Letter) Bodystyle That means: ATS = A-Series Touring Sedan BTS = B-Series Touring Sedan CTS = C-Series Touring Sedan EXT = Escalade-Series Crossover Truck ESV = Escalade-Series Stretched Vehicle SRX = S-Series Reconfigurable Crossover XLR = X-Series Luxury Roadster XTS = X-Series Touring Sedan ELR means "Electric Long Range" and is a notable exception to this list. The name Ciel is also supposed to allude to the intials "C-L" meaning "Convertible Luxury." The following names are pre-Art & Science, so their meanings are obviously just a little different. DTS = Deville Touring Sedan DHS = Deville Hi-lux Sedan (long form: Deville High-Luxury Sedan) ETC = El Dorado Touring Coupe STS = Seville Touring Sedan SLS = Seville Luxury Sedan Edited February 17, 201214 yr by black-knight
February 17, 201214 yr These stretched, convoluted twists to attribute 'meaning' to 'cool' sounding acronyms is so stupid.

February 17, 201214 yr That would make sense, except they screwed it up with "C-Series Touring Sedan" Coupe. I wouldn't have a problem with Cadillac's acronyms if they just stayed consistent. Edited February 17, 201214 yr by §carlet §wordfish
February 18, 201214 yr ^ That's because Cadillac, right around Day 2, decided 'CTS' meant 'CTS' and not "Catera Touring Sedan'. CTS has been out since Jan 2002- how many times have you seen Cadillac refer to it other than as a 'CTS'? This is how calling the coupe a 'CTS' makes perfect sense IMO, and is a move away from the nonsensical changing the name of the same series car because of different options, engines or body styles..., and back to a more sensible system.
