So are we looking for alternative names, the meaning of, or just watch vehicles the names belong to?

STS = Seville Touring Sedan

DTS = Deville Touring Sedan

CTS = Catera Touring Sedan

XLR = R is for Roadster

ATS = no "name" associated

SRX = no "name" associated

XTS = no "name" associated

ELR = Electric Roadster

EXT = Escalade Truck

ESV = Escalade Suburban

I am looking for what the actual acronym stands for. I actully started thinking about this and realized I only new a couple and wonder if anyone really knows the actual names these 3 letter stand for.

From the CadillacForum.com People there are stating that the ELR = Extended Long Range.

Not sure if this is true as I could not find anything on the GM web site to confirm or deni this.

I'd think that XLR was "something something Roadster."

Probably eXtreme Luxury Roadster or eXtra Luxury Roadster. I don't remeber DHS even existing..

It was a trimline on the penultimate generation of the Deville.

There is also the POS, I mean BTS, the short lived sedan on the 9-3 Epsion platform. And BTS stood for Below The Standard.

I believe DHS was supposed to mean Deville High-level Sedan or maybe high luxury. It was sold 2000-2005 as the luxury trim of the Deville and it had the bench seat. The DTS had sporting credentials, aka floor mounted shifter.

ETC = El Dorado Touring Coupe

I've always wondered what the EXT and ESV in Escalade meant... EXT normally means Extended, but the Avalanche-based Escalade EXT really isn't ''extended'', that's what the Escalade ESV is (an extended Escalade).

• (First Letter) = Vehicle Series
  
• (Second Letter) = Function/Characteristic
  
• (Third Letter) Bodystyle
  

That means:

• ATS = A-Series Touring Sedan
  
• BTS = B-Series Touring Sedan
  
• CTS = C-Series Touring Sedan
  
• EXT = Escalade-Series Crossover Truck
  
• ESV = Escalade-Series Stretched Vehicle
  
• SRX = S-Series Reconfigurable Crossover
  
• XLR = X-Series Luxury Roadster
  
• XTS = X-Series Touring Sedan

Thank you Black Knight, this is great to finally learn what the Alphabet soup means for Cadillac.

That would make sense, except they screwed it up with "C-Series Touring Sedan" Coupe. I wouldn't have a problem with Cadillac's acronyms if they just stayed consistent.

^ That's because Cadillac, right around Day 2, decided 'CTS' meant 'CTS' and not "Catera Touring Sedan'.

CTS has been out since Jan 2002- how many times have you seen Cadillac refer to it other than as a 'CTS'?

This is how calling the coupe a 'CTS' makes perfect sense IMO, and is a move away from the nonsensical changing the name of the same series car because of different options, engines or body styles..., and back to a more sensible system.

I'll have a C-Series Touring Sedan Coupe please.

Or maybe the Wagon.

Or maybe a NETS.
