March 13, 201214 yr Well, it's a decent parts offering since this car will never be numbers-matching, good major pieces for a built cruiser... tho I'd go with a 400 over the 455 here. I would be much more interested if this was a mostly rust-free car instead of the surgery the description says it needs. What's your take?

I don't know as much about the various Pontiac v8s though, so I wondered about your perspective on it. Would this have been a 389 car originally? Don't think the ad said...

Don't think the ad said... Yes. Looks to be the same color as the '65 my brother had around 1978-1980... For an engine, this could use the 265 from that '60 Pontiac 4dr Balthy posted a while back... March 13, 201214 yr ^ Yeah, NO. All '64-66s were 389s, 400 came along for '67. There aren't quite as many engine repop pieces for the 389 vs. the 400, and they're visually identical. Camino- here's my buddy's '67 Chevelle project car- perhaps that's more up yer alley: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Chevrolet-Chevelle-malibu-1967-Chevelle-Malibu-2-door-hardtop-/160759746637?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item256e07104d#ht_500wt_1107
March 13, 201214 yr Author Well, a Chevelle would certainly be more familiar... But not really any more up my alley.
March 13, 201214 yr Author I think if I were to do this GTO, I'd want the 389 - but not the 3spd. trans. That would be like having a Chevy SS with a stinking powerglide!
March 13, 201214 yr Why don't you buy the Chevelle? You'd get the straight talk WRT condition & history, I can guarantee you that.
March 13, 201214 yr Keep an eye open for a '66 Elky for m...... oh; I forgot who I was talking to here.
March 13, 201214 yr Author Hey, I don't mind doing that - I can't afford to be competition right now anyway. But, a '66 is a tough call - hardly ever see that year for sale. Only local example on CL: http://southjersey.craigslist.org/cto/2898385321.html She's a rough unit. Edited March 13, 201214 yr by Camino LS6
March 13, 201214 yr Author At the opposite end of the spectrum, we have "Hen's Teeth" - the ultimate Camino for '66. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/66-CHEVY-EL-CAMINO-396-4-SPEED-BIG-BLOCK-/180836784218?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item2a1ab6585a#ht_1227wt_604 You just won't find another one equipped this way.
