For the longest time, we’ve been hearing murmurs of Infiniti getting a version of the Nissan Leaf. Now, those murmurs could be leading to something.

TheDetroitBureau reports Infiniti will pull the wraps off its own battery-electric vehicle concept at next month’s New York Auto Show according to few officials. The car will be based on the Leaf, but come with G-Series-inspired styling and a sprinkling of inspiration from the Emerg-E concept.

“It was designed to be a luxury vehicle first and an electric vehicle second,” said Infiniti marketing manager Sam Chung.

The powertrain of the Infiniti EV concept will almost be the same as the Nissan Leaf except the concept will carry a larger battery pack (the Nissan Leaf carries a 24 kilowatt-hour lithium-ion pack).

The concept will also come with a 6kWh charger that will charge a spent battery in about half the time needed for the Leaf. The charger will go into production sometime later this year.

Very interesting, Wonder if this is due to Cadillac getting their own Luxury Hybrid based on the Volt. Eventually these cars while being a halo vehicle for the brand at this time will lead to wider acceptance of changing ways to power auto's.

I've read the Volt-based ELR coupe is a go for production...

Yes, I am actually excited for the ELR. I think it will bring some Excitement to Cadillac. Hopefully they get it out before Infinity.

I wouldn't mind if they made a production version of the Leaf Nismo RC. Then it could be like the Prii famliy. Nissan Leaves!

But what happens when fall comes, do the leaves curl up and die???

I think both Nissan and GM can build a whole family on their Electric / Hybrid technology.

I would assume the production ELR will get it's own styling and not just a Cadillac grille and lights on a Volt.. :)
