I have an 89' cavalier 2.0 that I race at the local speedway and I need more hp. I can't use a turbo so what can I do to the most hp possible out of this engine?

Cold air Intake

Performance Catalitic Converter

Performance exhaust

Performance Headers

And CAM SHAFT'S

I dont know about that car but somtimes companys have performance Computer chips for them.

What kind of racing and what do the rules allow? Does the car have to be street legal?

What we've done so far:

took off the Catalytic converter

tuned it up

synthetic oil

It's oval racing (ARCA 4-cylinder). I need stuff that isn't obvious. We are looking at swapping out the Injector in the throttle body for one that will allow more fuel to be injected. Does anyone know if that will do me any good? It doesn't need to be street legal.

How well does a K&N or similar air filter really work?

Have you gutted the interior? Back seat, carpet, door panels, etc. Those things add up in the weight department.

Yeah it's about as bare as we could get it. We're going to replace the windshield with Plexi-Glass

A K&N filter plus a less restrictive exhaust system (which you've done), should be good for an easy 10-15hp. Finding a hotter cam and a head with larger valves may be a bit of a stretch

Upgrading the injector(s) will help a lot especially after you've enabled the engine to breathe more freely. You might also find a PROM to plug into your ECM that tells the stock injector to spray more fuel. Good luck on that though, as there probably isn't much of that available for that engine.

Look for any place you can lose some more weight: wheels, chassis, lights(if allowed) etc.

Fab up your own Ram air system.

Cut the operating temp.

I have no knowlege about what aftermarket items are out there for this engine, but someone should - time for google.
