Well the poor old Shadow is basically at the end of its life. The body rot is pretty horrendous and its having issues overheating, along with lots of other issues that have crept up lately.

So with that he decided it was time for a new car. He had been looking for a second gen Grand Cherokee but in the end settled with something quite different: a 1999 Toyota Camry V6 for $4,500.

I think he did quite well. It's got just over 100,000 miles. Body is in great shape. No rust at all. Interior is very clean and in good shape except for a few small things (missing radio button). The V6 is very smooth and might as well be brand new by the way it sounds. Very peppy too. The transmission shifts smooth and it drives down the road very nicely. As far as Camries goes this is the best looking generation IMO. He's already taken it cross state. Should be a good car for him.

My Toyota-holic uncle has a Camry similar to that, although his has a set of rather blasphemous "American Edition" decals. I think he's managed to milk 200,000 miles out of it so far.

I am really surprised by how good of shape it is in...I haven't seen many of the older ones still holding strong like that...especially in the rustier states...hopefully she treats you good

Indeed, most of them I see are pretty beat to hell. Apparently it was a one owner, garage queen. It certainly shows. My brother did a good job picking it out, especially considering it's his first purchase and he did it himself. There's a few little things (replace the stereo button, replace missing visor clip, clean the headlights) to do but all the important stuff is rock solid, even the tires are relatively new Michelin. Someone even went to the trouble of repainting the wheels.

He's very happy with it and plans to take good care of it, he'll have more time for car care now that he has to spend less time repairing the car.

WOW, a car with that amount of miles on the east coast with no rust. Freakin amazing.

Great choice. Not an exciting ride but hard to go wrong with a clearly pampered Camry WITH V6 and nice options. Looks hardly worn. Interesting how after that gen, they got a bit fresher but then also cheaper and cheaper year by year until the new 2012 re-do.

The V6 should be good forever, if maintained.
