The car you see here is what we believe to be the most original, lowest mileage 1951 Mercury Sport Sedan on the planet, PERIOD! Hilda Shreiber purchased this shiny new Mercury at Parkway Lincoln Mercury, in Cincinnati, OH on March 15, 1951. She did not have a license, and her husband was legally blind. As luck would have it, their gardener did have his license and was recruited to drive Mr. and Mrs. Schreiber to the grocery store, to church on Sundays, and to run the occassional errand. The car saw very little use, and was always kept in a heated garage. The dash board, steering wheel, hood, trunk, roof, seats, etc were each assigned their own blanket! The car was covered at all times when not in use. When Hilda passed away the car was handed down to her son who looked after the car with the same dedication she did. The car was eventually willed to Hilda's grandnephew in 1989 who had also helped to care for the vehicle over the years. The condition of the car can only be fully appreciated in person! It is as close to new as you will ever see for a vehicle this age. The 225 Flathead V8 purrs like a kitten. Options include the Merc-O-Matic transmission, back-up lights, and curb feelers. The original owner's manual, bill of sale, sales order, and a copy of the original title are included in the purchase of this one-of-a-kind classic Mercury!

April 10, 201213 yr Why could Ford not have kept Mercury around as a limited and special maker of retro automotive beauty like this! Just think of a modern incarnation of this car built on the Mustang platform and sold in limited numbers to REAL car guys like us! Mercury could have had something unique and special instead of just redressed Fords!----One can dream!
April 11, 201213 yr We could say the same thing about why did GM not use Pontiac for limited edition runs of modern versions of old performance cars. This is a beauty and I think there is a market for limited production runs of select desirable cars.
