  1. 1. Cheers or Jeers?

    • Cheers! Given the rarity, well worth it.

    • Jeers! Given that more desirable and driveable examples are thousands cheaper, not worth it

Cheers or Jeers: 17 Mile 1978 Corvette Pace Car

Up for bid is a 78 Pace Car Corvette with only 17 miles. This car is a two owner car that was bought new in 78 with MSO papers and was not registered until 2010. The exhaust was hooked up to a venting system and started twice a year. Everything is original to the car except the battery. The tires are in new condition, but starting to show their age. A set of new correct reproductions come with the car. There was only 200 L82 4 speed 78 Pace Cars produced. Very rare particularly with only 17 miles.

The original owner passed away with the current owner having ownership of the car for 10 years. The car is like new in excellent condition. Finding low mileage like new cars is a rarity. Please note I also have for sale a 78 Corvette Silver Anniversary with only 13,204 miles.

Please read on for more particulars of the car:

Low miles, truly a collectors and it reminds me of the ultimate in covette movies. "Corvette Summer" I love this body style so this is for sure a CHEERS!!! :D

my dad almost bought one of these back in 87. had 11 miles on the clock. i think i have pics of it posted on here somewhere. a dentist in atlanta bought it, drove it home and put it in his basement on jack stands. still had the plastic wrap on everything in the interior, and all the tags hanging as delivered. the dentist passed away and the car was sold at his estate sale. the asking price fo the car in 87? $21K i believe. surely it goes on a list of the ones that got away. this has to be the best pace vette. there was also a buyers guide in last months hemmings muscle machines featuring this car.

This sits in my mind (right after the '76 Eldorado convertible) as one of the first 'brand new collectibles'. The percentage of these out there in great/outstanding condition must be unusually high.

I don't dislike these, but at the same time they don't do anything for me.

Oddly enough, this is one of my all time favorite GM cars.

Cheers!
