May 11, 201213 yr Chronicling the Death of a Car Have you ever stopped and thought about what a car goes through at the end of its life? It's a very sad and to be honest very brutal fate that awaits a vehicle that provided its owners years of service, usually asking little in return. To most people a car is nothing more than an appliance, something that is merely cast away like an cell phone. To car enthusiasts however, who think of a car as more than the sum of its parts, a machine which can have passion and soul, and something that is part of your family, the following may be difficult to read. Car and Driver recently sent a tired, old BMW 325i to meet it fate, likening the wrecker to a slaughterhouse. It's a very well-written article, and its hard not to feel bad for the poor old E36. At the end of the article, pause for a moment and think about the car that's in your driveway now. Perhaps its time to give it a nice wash, an oil change, an interior detailing, a drive to nowhere in particular, or maybe a C&D suggests, a hug. http://www.caranddriver.com/features/what-happens-when-a-car-dies-we-send-a-3-series-to-the-shredder-to-find-out-feature
May 11, 201213 yr Yea I saw this story and the first thing in my mind is how people have become a disposable society. No one and this BMW is a perfect example seem to be willing to take care of their cars. A car can last for ever with care and yet people seem to not want to bother, just drive it, trash it and replace it. Sad state of our country.
May 11, 201213 yr Didn't see the piece, but I tend to enter the car arena from the 'end of life' side of the equation. It's a mindset that is ingrained in me (preserve the dying). Nice to see a BMW beater in the clinch, tho - thanks C&D!
