Oil and Chips

I'd rather have fish & chips.

It's a very cost-effective type of preventative maintenance treatment for asphalt pavement. It seals cracks and preserves good pavement, though the downside is the loose aggregate.

Some local company years ago was repaving secondary roads with recycled roofing materials. Claimed to have a way to reclaim all the roofing nails and etc. before it was put on the road. But it was a fiasco. Flat tires galore, all of which the municipality had to pay for.

It's used to seal cracks and keep moisture out of the road and thereby helping prevent potholes. It's pretty low tech though. Apparently per mile it costs $25,000 dollars to treat the road with that stuff VS $350,000 per mile to repave with asphalt and that's why they're doing it. I question how durable it is. You know, after the cure period where it pings cars relentlessly.

It does seem to seal the road, but the cost to drivers due to the loose pea gravel that destroys windshields is terrible. The roads also become far more noisy. I hate driving on one of these roads.

The roads are probably too far gone for the treatment to work then. Funding for road maintenance is woefully inadequate as costs have increased, vehicles get better mileage, and the federal gax tax has not increased in 15 years. Expect to continue to drive on roads in poor condition.

Why SUV's are better for the roads than cars, the roads suck, so now we need to make sure the auto can handle grand canyon pot holes.

SUVs are heavier than cars and do more damage to the road than lighter cars.... yay for vicious circle!

Could have been avoided if the moron politicians actually used property tax/gas tax/road tax/etc for the expected use compard to the overloaded social services of trying to provide everything for everyone even when a person does not need something or has not earned it.

We waste millions that could go to having better schools, roads and basic infastructure. just cut the bloated DHSH divisions of the state and federal gov's.
