August 19, 201213 yr Looks very good from here! Only 83k miles? Lots of recent work done, too. My only fear is body rot disguised by distance to my eyeballs.
August 19, 201213 yr Author So far this has been a fruitless and frustrating search. I may try to crutch the ROPOS through one more year. I wrote to the seller and asked for pictures of this one. http://newhaven.crai...3208753006.html I e-mailed too.

I hate it when people advertise, then don't respond! If you get to the point of wanting to investigate the black 3500, let me know.

Right now, I'm thinking about sending that seller an e-mail. It's like 20-30min away. No problem to go check it out...specific list of trouble spots to check would be helpful though. $9K makes it more of a budget buster as you've still got to hang a plow on it (unless the ROPOS's transfers).
August 19, 201213 yr Author I e-mailed the seller. And yes, 9k is too much but it comes with a plow. Any rot is the trouble to look for. The cab corners, rockers, and above every wheelwell are the most common trouble spots. Also, Brake, fuel, and transmission lines under the truck are prone to rot and are a real PITA to repair. I would expect this truck to have none of those problems. Thanks in advance for volunteering to check it out for me. We'll see how the seller responds to my rather frank e-mail.
August 19, 201213 yr Author I think I'll just have to give up for now. Spend some cash on my projects and get them ready to sell.
August 19, 201213 yr I think I'll just have to give up for now. Spend some cash on my projects and get them ready to sell. Maybe the guy with the red, low mileage 2500 will e-mail back...who knows.
August 19, 201213 yr Author Anything is possible, but I won't hold my breath. Once I start putting money into one of my projects, this window closes.
August 20, 201213 yr How about this: 1995 Chevrolet 3500 4x4 Dump with Plow: http://www.burlingtonchevy.com/1995-Chevrolet-K3500-Chassis-Burlington-NJ/vd/10669300
August 20, 201213 yr Author I've seen some good deals on dump trucks, but I really want something I can drive every day. Thanks for all of the suggestions and help guys, but I think this hunt is over for now.
August 21, 201213 yr Here's an offbeat idea...buy this as a donor and make the Mothertruck your workhorse.
August 21, 201213 yr Author Something like that is likely what will happen now, Z. But the notion of me owning a tow truck is a dangerous one.
August 22, 201213 yr Author This is about as good as it gets right now. Not a real 2500 (in my opinion), too expensive, but the best that is even remotely within reason at the moment. I don't particularly like it. http://cnj.craigslist.org/cto/3118271570.html

I don't particularly like it. http://cnj.craigslis...3118271570.html What's not "real 2500" about it? Essentially, it is what used to be called a "heavy half", it is a 1500 with heftier springs and such. The truck only sports 6-lug wheels and light-duty axles, and has a lower GVW than a "true' 2500. The option code for the real deal is C6P , and this isn't one. IIRC, the GVW on these is 7,200#, where a C6P is 8.600#.
August 22, 201213 yr Author C6Ps are easy to spot. They will never have aluminum wheels, and will always have fender flares on these 400s. They also will always have 8-lug wheels and sit higher. Also, the difference between a 2500 C6P and an SRW 3500 is razor thin as I recall, with very little difference in the specs. So I am quite open to a K3500 with SRW, but no duallies! I could tolerate an extended cab shortbed, but really would prefer a standard cab longbed. Anything longer is just too long.

August 27, 201213 yr No plow, but a fat block dually with a five speed is one heck of a truck clicky it's not far from me at all. I'd gladly do recon for ya.
August 27, 201213 yr Author That's alot of truck for the money! A dually, and a bunch of miles, but still... Too bad it is a 2WD. Edited August 27, 201213 yr by Camino LS6
August 27, 201213 yr Not a bad work truck, though I wonder what other hits it has taken considering the passenger side dual fender is all messed up.
August 27, 201213 yr Author Those big hips on duallys often get bruised - they just stick out too far (sort of like trailer mirrors). I wouldn't worry too much about the overall condition of a dually because the big rear fenders have some road rash.
August 31, 201213 yr Not too shabby. Let me know if you want it checked out. Little higher mileage, but looks clean (in pics anyway).
August 31, 201213 yr Author It does look pretty clean in the pics, but I think I'll pass on it for now. I'm really wanting to find something with low mileage, so I will have to gather some more cash before I buy a truck from the way things look now.
September 1, 201213 yr Another non-El Camino option. http://newlondon.craigslist.org/cto/3236046013.html
September 2, 201213 yr My buddy is selling his '02 Chevy DuraMax dually, he just had a replacement fender painted/hung. I would never buy a dually, but some folk need/ love 'em.
September 2, 201213 yr Author My buddy is selling his '02 Chevy DuraMax dually, he just had a replacement fender painted/hung. I would never buy a dually, but some folk need/ love 'em. I'm sure it is out of my price range, and I'm not really interested in a dually. They are just too wide, and require a wide plow, both are a disadvantage with this driveway.

September 8, 201213 yr Author Thanks BP, but I've about had it with long journeys without positive result.
September 8, 201213 yr This one is a little closer, but a stretch on your budget. http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/cto/3229927361.html
September 8, 201213 yr This one is a little closer, but a stretch on your budget. http://philadelphia....3229927361.html Something looks really funny about that one..the tires/wheels are really tiny or it's had a lift?

September 8, 201213 yr Yep, that's the stock ride height for a base 2500 with the 6.0. A friend of mine has one just like that in white. The springs in it are quite impressive. We once loaded the bed up with firewood and there was hardly any sag.
September 8, 201213 yr Author I bookmarked that one the day it was posted. I'd love to buy it, but it's just not in the budget.
