August 6, 201213 yr I'm toying with the idea of allowing unregistered users to post to certain forums. The posts would not be visible till after a moderator approves the post. What do you think of the idea?
August 6, 201213 yr Not bad, but let us scrutinize each and every post from Guests. What happens if moderator/admin does not approve the post?

August 6, 201213 yr depends, are they going to be the douches that post on edmunds inside line, autoblog, and import freak sites? I can see the reasoning though, site traffic.
August 6, 201213 yr Author Sounds like too much work to moderate. the idea is to encourage more people to post, we have 1,200 visitors a day or more, yet only a small handful of those post anything and most aren't even registered.

We haven't allowed unregistered guest posting for as long as I can remember, so at this point it is just an experiment and have no idea what the results would be. I would only allow it in the brand forums and reviews where MudMonster does most of his posting and we do most of our promoting, not anything like Lounge.
August 6, 201213 yr I had the same thought as reg after reading this.. But after giving it a quick thought, I'm all for it
August 6, 201213 yr Author Well it's not like it isn't reversible. If we don't like it or it becomes too much of a bear to moderate, we can shut it back off.
August 6, 201213 yr Sounds like a good idea. I'm ready to review posts. Let's go for it....it beats being twelve old men posting here in ten years....with 45,000 posts apiece... 'Open the window, let in some fresh air'. I like the way you think!
August 7, 201213 yr how about entry level special, let each non registered poster, post up to like 10 times, then lock them out. make them become members.
August 7, 201213 yr Author Software doesn't have the ability to do that. How can I block someone out if they aren't registered? I can't go by IP address, that changes all the time.
August 7, 201213 yr is there a way to capture their facebook or google plus id and have them post using that? then at least we can identify the douches.

August 8, 201213 yr ^ Are we racing, Horsey? ;) I think the 455 in the B-59 would crush the 1.6 Supercharged in the MINI, so....no. I agree that moderating the posts should work fine to allow the fresh air in. So far we've got one new poster that Z06 tore apart.....let's see what else comes in the door.
August 8, 201213 yr Author yeah, I don't want to be threatening to delete GM bashing posts..... rip them apart, but don't delete them.
August 8, 201213 yr No, I do not want to delete them either. But if the argument is without any basis it just portrays ignorance on our website. I want constructive discussions and arguments based on good research. We do not go and troll other websites; others coming as guests should respect who we are and we have right to unwelcome them if they do not.
August 8, 201213 yr ^ Are we racing, Horsey? ;) I think the 455 in the B-59 would crush the 1.6 Supercharged in the MINI, so....no. It would of course, but I was looking at our respective post counts.
August 8, 201213 yr If it is a troll he will not be beaten regardless of how much facts you dump on him. Kill him once and forget it - less energy and time expended in chasing and trying to beat him down.
August 8, 201213 yr If someone wants to post, it doesn't take much effort to sign up. All this does is just invite lazy people with lazy, unfounded opinions to blather. On a gaming forum I moderated, we tried this. It's a different audience but it could happen here and make C & G trollbait. I would much rather a system where Facebook logins are used. If that cannot be done, I'd forget the idea.
August 24, 201213 yr C and G is a nice mature site, and people here are respectful. We have had very few anonymous visitors.
