For the second month in a row Motor Trend claims the 2014 Chevy Impala with be the first large or full size car equipped with a normally aspirated four cylinder engine. This is wrong on a number of levels. First, they are forgetting that the Buick Lacrosse on the same platform even, offered the 2.4 for 2010-2011. And yes, that is non-turbo, non-hybrid. Few takers, and it was discontinued when the Regal came around. If you want to go way back in the time machine, Chevy offered the old Iron Duke 4 banger in the Lumina, a similar sized, 6 passenger and yet not full size car about 20 years ago. If that doesn't count for you, the current Honda Accord qualifies as a large car by EPA standards, and it certainly offers four cylinder engines.

Don't they have anyone there anymore who does fact checking or editing before publishing mistakes?

At 116 ft³ the Lacrosse is EPA size rated as a mid-size while the XTS (about the same inside as the Impala) is rated 122 ft³ or full size

but you are correct about the Honda Accord. It is EPA size rated at 121 ft³

The minimum to be considered full size is 120 ft³

Those measurements are all snarky-malarky.

EPA gives a front hip room measurement with no regard if the car has a console or not.
