The task: too daunting for the little guy. They've filed for bankruptcy in the US and will stop selling cars, trucks and SUVs here. The rest of their business will stay: motorcycles, etc.

"Real" Suzuki automobiles were not bad, some were even really good fun. GM's influence, with the Daewoo-sourced Verona, Forenza and Reno, pretty much destroyed their reputation in this country. Not saying it's the only reason, but it is a relevant one.

So goodbye, little guy. Would've liked to have known the Swift and your new CUV you have coming... but not meant to be.

I wanted a new 9-5 and Saab went down. Then I wanted a Kizashi and look what happened. I really like the Outlander Sport........ Some of the Mazdas are looking good......

Suzuki is leaving a market where it can make no profits. Good. What was the last Suzuki that was good enough for people to buy 1000 Suzukis in a month? I have not seen a Suzuki around here in a few years now. I do not really miss them either.

Funny, at my former-former place of employment, a Lincoln-Mercury dealer for 60 years or so (until Ford's reorganization cut them), they scrambled around trying to procure another new-car franchise. They ended up with Mitsubishi because every other major brand was happily represented by other local dealers... that they were able to acquire Mitsu without much fight is a clear indication. Mitsu will be next to leave the U.S. market. Former-former employer won't be around much longer, I predict, at a prime location they've held since 1948, as I don't see them financially able to acquire another new-car franchise.

Their "YUGO" sign is still tucked away behind one of the paint booths in the bodyshop over there, that was another debacle well before my time there.

Speaking of Japanese brands that are or have left the US market, I saw an Isuzu Ascender in traffic the other day...had to do a double take, hadn't seen one of those in years...

Sad about dealerships that end up dying due to not investing in the long term. You bringing up the Yugo sign reminds me that my caddy dealership that was a Caddy, Volvo, Buick, Oldsmobile, Pontiac, Saturn, Hummer, Isuzu and Suzuki dealership all in one mega large place is sadly just a Caddy dealership now, but still has all the other signs up on windows, their big sign on the road, etc.

The original owner retired and left the dealership to his two kids. One took Volvo and moved out to be on his own and left the other kid with the old mega dealership. Course, they gave up Suzuki a year ago as it did not look good having them on the lot next to Caddy, but I do wonder if GM did not push them out. Just wish he would remodel and remove all the old stuff and sprouce up the caddy dealership. Great folks working there, just needs a boost of Modernization as the place is clearly dated from the 60-70's area.
