What are your automotive purchase plans?

Featured Replies

So, there was a thread similiar to this that I can't find (I'm sure someone will post a link though when THEY find it! ). Originally, I replied that we were going to pay off the G6 in mid-2014 (if not earlier) and then the Envoy in early 2016, at which time I'd look to get me a new GMC Sierra pickup. The the wife fell in love with the Buick Encore and wants to consider leasing one when they hit the market (meaning one of the two current vehicles has to go). Logic says dump the Envoy - it will be 7 years old and still has 3 years left on the loan - and keep the G6 since it's almost paid off (and likely not a good trade-in value). Though I don't want to be without a truck (okay, I know it's a SUV, but appease me here!), going that route means I could get a new Sierra a year earlier than planned before, maybe two years earlier if we pay off the G6. Of course I'd still like a pickup truck as an additional vehicle until I can get the new one :P But this is where I am at this point in time with our automotive planning.

Anyone else thinking about their next automotive purchase? Near or far away, it doesn't matter!

For now, I'm going to hold steady with the Colorado while I go through a "major lifestyle change" (to be expanded on later). It's been solid as a rock since I bought it. Once said lifestyle change is complete (hopefully by this time next year) I could be in the market for something "fun" to occupy the other part of my garage.

I still need a truck at some point, but no active plans to get one.

It can't take that long to get off the bike and doing all that healthy crap and get back onto the couch drinking beer, eating pizza, and being a potato. You can reach your goals, we all believe in you!

My heart wants a Grand Sports, but my brain says it will not be possible, and my significant other will push me on the street.

Z06?

Z06...having met your wife...keep her...she's more cool than the vette....

Not that I m ind you getting a grand sport, mind you...

Plans for me wopuld be a BRZ, possibly, or a GTI...possibly a Focus ST, but I like the BRZ and GTI better.

Also thinking a Cruze at some point as a more family oriented car.

Still really want to own a vintage pick up truck at some point...went and looked at a 65 Chevy shortbed that was a southern truck this week, but on a lift it looked more like an Ohio truck so, no go....

Nothing planned here for the foreseable future as far as the daily.

If I end up having to get rid of my Patriot, with the way things are now, it will be for something cheap and old, like an '02-'03 S-10.

psst...blu...older wrangler....

Depends when we decide to expand the family again.

Just met a nice old guy, 86, with an '02 EC S-10, 10K original miles. It was pristine.

Keeping the Malibu Maxx for the duration. Only 90,000 miles on it.

Daughter is off to college next fall. Would love an older car, truck or tractor to tinker with but it ain't in the cards.

Nothing planned for now, would like to get me an 86 Monte Carlo SS Aero and rebuild it with a proper GM crate motor to turn it into a sleeper. :P

Not buying anything.............nothing out there I want.

Verano Turbo or 2014 Impala 2LT or LTZ sometime later next year, I'll probably make up my mind once I'm able to see and drive the new Impala and come to terms with the Canadian pricing once its released.

I am in the mood to replace the Crx with another cheap runner to keep the Avalon from racking up too any miles. More likely than not this wouldn't be until after Christmas, though.

No immediate plans by me. My '05 Silverado is now my daily driver, and it has only 24k miles, and my '01 IS300 has only 55k miles. When I was younger, I wanted to get a new car every two or three years, but now I see that as just throwing money away. I don't find anything out there to be that compelling, though the Scion FR-S still interests me, and there's a new Lexus IS and Infiniti G about to be released. A new Accord EX-L in a year or two is the most likely new family vehicle to replace the '02 Accord.

My next step will be getting the fiance something she wants...

The Camaros are slowly making it back to weekend warior status. (The plan: continue building -- one pro-street and one classic)

The GTO, which was supposed to be the new daily has been repurposed as a semi-daily and long distance travel car; one of the original reasons it was bought. (The plan: hold steady)

The Mustang, which was to be sold, has been granted a stay of execution and will continue as the daily for the forseeable future. It was granted a stay of execution because 1) Its cost is relatively low. 2) If I did sell it, I probably wouldn't get more than 2-3K and 3) Its a convertible. (The plan: Maintain and possibly eventually rebuild either for driver duty or as a drifter)

The fiance's Power Wagon is sitting waiting its turn (The plan: retore... God knows when. And buy an old Air Stream to pull behind it. Maybe that'll happen in the next life)

The fiance's Cavi will probably be the next to go. I want her to buy something fun but she's leaning toward practicality (what the hell is that? LOL)

There are many possibilities for a commuter when the time comes.... The Volt, a Spark or Cruze, a small SUV (most likely) or a Mustang of some sort (She is a Mustang girl)

I might exchange my Mustang for a cheap beater; focus? (if its health starts deteriorating rapidly)

Thinking of selling the Fusion and getting a 13 Passat TDi. Don't love the looks, but a comfortable cruiser that gets 45 mpg? Sign me up! At 25-30k miles per year, a 45 mpg car would be fantastic!!!!

For me, a bit of old, and a bit of new....

Wife's Cavalier- Will stick around for a while...has made a good family beater. Will see some major updates (many already done) this spring...

The Slobalt- also sticks around...already picked up parts for it's spring overhaul....stays the daily beater....

Sometime next year....another 4 door will be added......a good chance it will be a Cruze...

My cavalier....will hopefully be geared for auto-x duty..

And as for a bit of old.....my hold is to grab an old truck......

Sometime within the next year or so I will probably be looking to pick up something new ( for me ) More than likely I'll be looking at Silverado's or Ram's, possibly Jeeps as well. At this stage the Delta 88 will probably be sent to the crusher ( Sadly my restoration plans never materialized and in the passing time, rot and rust have had a field day on it ). The Riviera may be kept and passed down to my younger brother who will be turning 17.

As of now I plan to possibly look at something around a 2010 model, maybe a year or two older. It all comes down to what's available and price wise. Options and things are also a factor, I'm not much of a base model kind of guy, and if I'm shelling out money to buy something this newish, I want it to be pretty well equipped.

I wish you the best, with all the cars lost to Sandy, it looks like used are going to be tight. Good luck.

The lease on the Malibu is up in the late spring/early summer, so need to decide what's next.

The wife is missing her trucks, so i may have to work on that. The 2013 Traverse is at least palatable now.

But who knows what will be a decent deal at that time.

I should probably get her a Silverado right now with the deals going on, and then swap the Malibu for something for me in the suimmer...

Some good deals on 2013 Silverados?

I've been all over the place. Since I've moved into NYC this is the longest I've ever been without a car of my own. Initially it wasn't so bad because I could always borrow one from my family if I took the train home on the weekend. I'm starting to feel the lack of mobility. I'm sure used cars prices are going to spike but I'm thinking about getting used 2011 5.0 Mustang GT this coming march or april. If I could get a mint, loaded 2011 GT (probably about 38k or so MSRP) with 40k or less miles on it for between 20-22k I'm sold.

It would be purely for traveling on the weekends.

I feel your pain: you love Mustangs and it is totally understandable to feel bereft in their absence. Good luck to all who have plans for the future.

Most of the deals are on leftover 2012 models. But don't forget Olds Guy that GM will still be making 2013 models throughout the 2013 calendar year, at least until the new plant(s) are ramped up for 2014 production. There will definitely be great sales incentives on the hoods of remaining '13 Silverados (btw, may I suggest a Sierra :P ) come spring/summer 2013.

Well, my salesman says that the dealership is expecting to receive Buick Encores late December or early January. Does anyone know if the plant is already cranking them out? I'm hoping to at least get to the Philadelphia Auto Show (January 19-26) to check out the Encore first. This way if the wife is not happy with the Encore, maybe she'll revisit the Verano. Of course she's the type that needs to test drive the car, not just sit in it to tell if she likes it :P

I'm hating the thought of trading in the Envoy and losing a GMC from the garage, but realize I can move closer to my own goals at least a year or two earlier (a new Sierra in 2014 or 2015). Plus trading in the Envoy in January or early February means I can captialize on 4WD vehicles being in demand (snow weather) and also possibly get more trade-in value with the used supply demand from Super Storm Sandy. Add in the Auto Show incentive usually offered plus our GM Supplier Discount and it might be worth doing. Again, this is all contingent if she likes the Encore enough to want to get it (if not, she'll likely want to hold off on an automotive purchase).

Next to decide - lease or finance. We're putting an average of 16,700 miles on the G6 per year; leasing with a higher mileage allowance means we can turn in the car and get into something new; purchasing means we don't have to worry about the higher mileage usage but at the end of the finance have a vehicle with high mileage an poor trade-in value. I'm leaning more towards leasing her car (daily commuter) and financing my truck (weekend family hauler). This way if she likes something else she can go for a new lease, or if she likes the Encore, lease a new one.

I'm going to a first drive of the Encore in December.
