If it wasn't completely official yet, it became so 12/12/2012, when I put the license plates on it:

WELCOME to the family, 1989 Caprice Classic Brougham!

The same day, I put the keys for both of my Caprice Classics on the "'Caprice' w/CC emblem" key rings that a friend sent me. Now, I just need to give my 1989 Caprice Classic its 1st detail.... As I put on the plates, I was excited but still had a twinge of sadness, which probably will never completely go away.

This 1989 Caprice Classic just sort of fell into my lap. A friend & I went to look at it, figuring it would be nothing more than an exercise in determining what I would NOT want in an '89 CC. In fact, it was just the opposite. Looking it over, it became clear that it was in top mechanical shape with a few cosmetic issues ... & the price was good. The seller actually lowered it for me b/c he wanted me to have it given my "car history". Brought it home, with the help of the same friend, 10/26/2012.

1979 Caprice Classic & 1989 Caprice Classic plates; which season do you prefer?

I was able to make a bit more "connection" w/my newest acquisition b/c I found some original documentation in the 1989 Caprice Classic's glove compartment. The ones pictured (not including documentation w/names & addresses) are: "A service signals checklist for the car owner"; "GM Maintenance Schedule for Passenger Cars"; "1989 Warranty & Owners Assistance Information"; 1989 Caprice owners manual; "Used Vehicle Disclosure Label" (from 1993); "Vehicle Invoice" (1993); "Dealer Certification for Emission Control Equipment" (06/09/1989); Pre-Delivery inspection papers (1989); Burtness Chevrolet Inc (WI) "maintenance folio"....

My grandfather's last car was an '89 Caprice Classic Brougham LS in triple maroon. Brings back a lot of memories. Cool.

Very cool old tanks! Been a while since I've been in a B/D body car, since my own '95 Fleetwood. Only 1 left in the family.

Looks like a great find, for sure.

Thanks for the update on the '89 Caprice Classic, Cort! It's a beaut for sure. Back in college (fall '93), a friend I made there had an uncle who was a professor and he drove a triple gray '90 Caprice Classic Brougham. They are very nice cars, seeing yours reminds me of the times I went for rides in his uncle's car.

Keep us updated on what you do to the fleet and anything else you want to share about your experiences with the cars.

I think you need another one ... just sayin'. ;)

You are welcome! Sounds like a fun car in college. Any pics of it, by chance?

I will try to keep ya'll updated as much as possible. Given how things are for me right now, I doubt I'll be visiting much ... just too much right now....sorry. :(

What engines do the 2 Monte Carlos have?

The '79 MC originally had a 267 V8; it now sports a 350 V8 (since 1996). The '81 MC has the original 3.8 V6.

that's a keeper. what wheels came on it?

I sure hope it is! In the ad, the guy had "dog dish" hubcaps on it. But, when my friend and I went to see it, it had the "police" hubcaps w/"CAPRICE" on them. I didn't like those. Surprisingly to me, a friend (who almost bought one of my 3 MCs in July) sent me the 4 wire wheels.

I am going to need some parts for both ... gas tank ('89 CC) & front links/joints (both) & exhaust ('79 CC) ... if anyone knows a "best place" to go.....

I'm assuming you mean front ball joints. If I recall, you have a mechanic already. I would order Moog ball joints and have him put those in. There are Moog ball joints, and then there is everyone else.

Get the links done at the same time.. those don't have to be Moog, but you'll spend more on A/C Delco anyway so might as well get them the same.
