January 6, 201313 yr Found this over at Hemmings. "1971 Corvette 454 automatic, matching numbers. $2000".
January 6, 201313 yr FWIW a local guy bought a 66 small block 4 speed roadster with fairly minor fire damage for about 5K... A car that has been through a serious fire is toast IMHO...I wouldn't trust the frame once it's seen that kind of heat.
January 7, 201313 yr the 2k might be okay for the motor and trans if they work at all... reminds me of the slightly fire toasted 70's vette i saw at the pidgeon forge rod run this year. that loonie tune wanted 5K for his though the body was still mostly there...
January 7, 201313 yr I would think the engine would be scrap also if it burned..the wiring gone, gaskets, rubber stuff, etc.
January 8, 201313 yr Author Here's a link to the advert: http://www.hemmings.com/parts/item/3439.html?refer=blog
January 10, 201313 yr A Corvette-coded 454/trans is definitely worth money. It's all rebuildable. ...and I know of several 71 Corvette parts cars here in the colubus area...if only I had time and money...
January 10, 201313 yr Engine should be ok for a rebuild. The rest is very iffy. The melted driveshaft makes me think that both the frame and rear will be toast. Trans would be a maybe for rebuild - it seems to have been shielded from the worst of the heat. The ad states that the car was in the family for 30 years - heartbreaking.
