File this under the 'long stretch' folder, Motor Trend is reporting that the upcoming Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon could be coming with a diesel engine. A source tells Motor Trend that the plant where the all-new Colorado/Canyon midsize truck will be built for the U.S. is currently tooling up a line to build diesel engines.

The engine could be one of two diesels offered at the moment: a 2.5L with 150 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, or a 2.8L with 180 horsepower and either 324 pound-feet with a manual and 346 pound-feet with an automatic.

Sounds like an excellent plan. I am looking forward to seeing these. I hope they look better in US trim than the international Colorado we've seen.

Fantastic idea to put a modern diesel in these midsize pickups. Expect good sales if they follow through.

Very Cool, Take the international 2.8 Duramax and Rock On! :metal: I hope it has the trailblazer look as I really like what they launched over seas.

Thinking about this more. I think it is more likely we would see the 2 liter diesel from the Chevrolet Cruze. It would make the most sense from a financial standpoint at GM. Furthermore, 256 lb-ft standard with 280 lb-ft in "overboost mode" would still offer a decent amount of scoot.

What diesel is the current Asian-market Colorado using? Something sourced from Isuzu or GMDAT ?

I'm very pleased with the fact that the U.S. version has now been confirmed by Chris Doane spy photos to have a real truck front end, with a grille similar to its big brother.

:worthless:

Show us the pics Please! :P

Thanks Cubical, interesting look, the truck looks like it is nipping on the heals of the full size. Wish this was a true mini truck as I think the mid size trucks are just too close in size to full size.
