This is the problem with general statements: there are always exceptions. My personal opinion is that anything can run forever with the right maintenance and attention to things. My point has really been that GM does not respond to these Toyota ads. Toyota is allowed to run slipshod over GM based on non-existant quality advantages. This is a war and GM should be attacking and going for the jugular.

As far as ANY car making it to 200,000miles I guess

that's true. It just so happens if that car is a KIA it

will need a little more maintenance like say, a new

transmission every 25,000 miles or so. I think to

a lesser degree this is also true for Tauruses,

Winstars, Escorts, Cravans, Intrepids,  & pretty

much any Mitsubishi ever made with an A.O.D.

Or a new motor on a 100,000 mile Hyndai and more recently a new motor for our Corolla AWD wagon at 199, 6XX as has been with my experience.

175,000 On my 1988 GMC Sierra

1991 GMC S-15 Jimmy 4dr,

299,5xx miles

2 alternators, 2 a/c compressors, 1 water pump, 1 radiator, and 1 ring/pinion with bearings.

Smokes sometimes at start up, has a rear main seal leak.

I bought it with 28,xxx miles on it at two years old, can't find anything I want to replace it with.

I think to

I think they made a special Moorehead version of that vehicle.

You know the old Caprice 77 and up was a good car that many saw over 200,000 miles.

Then the 88-90's W cars with many 150,000-250,000 miles My buddies GP just hit the 250K mark oon the original engine and tranny.

Why, why, why buy a foreign car? I don't get it.

Because people believe everything Consumer Reports tells them. Not to mention all the import lovers on car forums.

Too bad they aren't doing this for other models! My dad has a Suburban that has 300,000 miles on it. Can we say 300,000 mile club? The only thing wrong with it was it needed a new fuel injector pump. Still runs great. It's a diesel though.

If they want to show true high mileage vehicles with heavy abuse, they just have to look for old police cars turned taxi cab turned personal rigs. Around here it's not uncommon to find an old Caprice with over 500,000 miles on it (though Crown Vics of the same don't exist).

One of our local taxi cab companies tried switching to Crown Vics once they no longer could buy Caprices. Because he had so many problems with them, he switched to Impalas after a year.

For those that think if it's foreign it lasts longer think about this; Taxi's can run up to 500,000 miles before being dumped. Rarely do you see a toyota or honda used as one, because they don't last long enough with true use and abuse.

i just had a customer yesterday, running around on an early 90's 3/4 ton 350 with 390k miles...

i asked original motor, hes all yea, but shes starting to get tired.

i asked original tranny, yea whats left of her...

Correction on my previous statement of mileage for MY truck. It has 273,895-miles on the odometer. My dad's '92 C1500 W/T package with the 4.3L V6 and 5-speed manual is currently at 406,755 miles.....So call our trucks reliable, I dare ya!

A dude I worked with delivering pizza has an old (late 80's) Chevy with 360k on it. It looks like $h! (he hit and knocked over a brick mailbox, it left his bumper all banged up) and sounds like $h!, but the Green Goblin still runs.

Around here a lot of taxi's drivers are starting to use Camrys (02-06) to replace their old Luminas/Ciera/Centurys. Its a good sized car and with the 4cyl it can save the driver a ton of cash over the life of the car on gas. I'm sure it will hold up as well as these cars did, probably even better.

lol i doubt it... camrys are extremely expensive to maintain...

and i know they wont see 60k miles without a trip to service or two...

i know all toyotas my family has ever had, have seen service durring their warranty period, and afterwards as well...

also their fuel ecconomy makes the long term reliablity suffer... making something more efficent generally strains the components making them last less in longevity.

this is why my dad never buys an 'energy star' refriderator or freezer...

fords good for 80k? maybe in you little dream world. my brother maintains a 99 f350 s/d with over a half-million miles on it, and the only major failure was the water pump at 350k. it also has a e4od trans that has had nothing but fluid changes. there are an awful lot of ford trucks out ther with way over 300k on them, just take yor pro-gm blinders off. now, as for superhigh mileage jap trucks, yea right. around here in the rust belt they might make 100k before the body falls off.

We know that you are correct. Beside the point, GM and Ford are in this together. Please take a moment to think on that.

99 GMC Safari mini van 200, 050 miles. Bought new off showroom floor 1 june 99. Love it.

IF they are looking for miles they should up the amount as I have see many with more than 200K. Hell my Uncles S-10 has almost 300K with an old Iron duke that has had nothing more than a plug change and clutch.

I own a 1995 C1500, bought it brand new, I plan on keeping this one. 335.765 miles. For the people that have bad things to say about GM vehicles just remember, your last ride will be GM.

 

 

'04 Silverado 2500HD is @ 165K at the moment.
