Sneak Peek: New Chevrolet Colorado, GMC Canyon Pickups

ACME, Mich. – At the Center for Automotive Research Management Briefing Seminars today, General Motors Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Dan Ammann provided the first look at the next-generation Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon, designed to be capable, versatile and fuel-efficient alternatives to full-size pickups.

Colorado and Canyon will join the all-new 2014 Silverado and Sierra 1500s, and the upcoming Silverado and Sierra HDs, to give Chevrolet and GMC the industry’s most comprehensive lineups of pickups, helping customers choose the right truck for their needs.

Production is scheduled to start in 2014 at GM’s Wentzville, Mo., assembly center.

I believe I am now putting my 2014 Sierra purchasing plans on hold until I can check out the 2015 Canyon further

I got to admit I'm smitten by the Chevy grille. Usually I "like" it but am not drawn to it. I have to say I've been admiring it all day. Of course I still like the GMC grille better

I personally wish GMC would get back to their grill from 94. My 94 GMC Suburban has that Chrome ring around the big outside, but then pitch black slates and a bright Ruby Red GMC floating in the center. That just rocks IMHO.

This is close but it still needs to be jet black or Black Chrome with the red GMC.

This Grill is perfect for GMC

I have a feeling these are going to be too awesome.

I will wait till I see more.

For sure it will be better than what they had but I need to see more before I praise or condemn this. An informed opinion is the best opinion.

Aside from banishing the guppy front end on the third world versions, which I am so thankful for, this truck needs a tire under it that doesn't look like a mini-spare, as seen on the third world versions.

Don't forget about the shortened bed on teh third world versions too. From previous spy shots, it looks like the Canyon/Colorado will have short and long beds available even on the crew cab model (a'la Nissan Frontier).

I am deeply frightened at the prospect of no regular cab model.

Not coming to he USA...

What, the regular cab model? I'd find that strange, especially for fleet-based customers (auto parts stores, for one). There are a ton of older Ford Rangers in use still by Advanced Auto Parts stores in my region, along with Terminex pest control (though I am seeing more and more new F150 regular cab 2WD models taking their place). Would be a shame if no regular cab was offered, but seeing as how the Nissan Frontier hasn't offered one in quite a while and now Toyota is dropping the regular cab from the Tacoma lineup I can see why GM would follow. However, they'd be targeting a market no one else would be in and it's not like the regular cab model doesn't already exist outside of the US.

Had a Chevy half ton in the 80's and could not have been happier. Would love to see them expand the line a bit and these look like a tight, modern design.
