September 2, 201312 yr Those were definitely distinctive....along w/ the Olds 442 fastback of the same era. I can't recall the last time I saw one of these..seems like years or decades..
September 2, 201312 yr Buick did some nice touches on these, but the basic body shell I've always shuddered at. Agree with Moltar; haven't seen one in a good 10 years.
September 2, 201312 yr wow, I can say that these were interesting cars but have not seen one in 20 years.
September 3, 201312 yr You guys need to be here in Dayton I see em at least once every four or six months. Not the turbo mind you but still this place is like Cuba ;-)
September 3, 201312 yr I hated these when they started making them... but they have grown on me. It just might be that coupes are so rare nowadays... if you made a car that looked like a shoe, it would look good to me if it was a coupe. My only gripe is the amber blinkers in the rear... so I prefer the '79 442.I think these could have been much more successful had GM just tweaked the design here and there.
September 6, 201312 yr I can remember these when it and the Olds came out and so many people were like what the hell are they thinking. There were so few Turbo's back then they were rare and after 35,000 miles most were blown up. The Turbo bearings were coked up and burned up. This was a pre water cooled turbo and before Syn oil was recommended. If you can find one of these with the original turbo and in good condition you would have a very rare find. I saw a Sunbird Turbo GT sedan the other day and was shocked as it had been years since I saw one even in a junk yard. Same for the Turbo Grand Am.
September 7, 201312 yr In a unintentional sort of way, these fastbacks remind me of an homage to the late '40s-early 50s era when GM had 2dr and 4dr sedans in notchback and fastback form.
September 7, 201312 yr Funny, I was thinking the Honda Crosstour and BMW 5 Series GT were awful homages to the '78 Century humpbacks... ;-)
September 13, 201312 yr These croaky looking cars remind me of those old days...I say when I could see my father sit next to me and say "Banister" drive me home... I dont dwell in the past or dream of the future I concentrate my mind on the present
