November 19, 201312 yr Yahoo Autos has this really interesting article on actual car (truck and tractor) parts being transformed into every day furniture. Read the article here: http://autos.yahoo.com/news/10-pieces-of-awesome-automotive-furniture-014620673.html I'm interested in the first showing, the blue collar reclaimed bench. I may seriously pursue looking into having something like this done for me. I'd like to find a '55-'66 GMC stepside tailgate, have it restored and then converted into a bench. What automotive-related piece of furniture would you like to have? Edited November 19, 201312 yr by GMTruckGuy74
November 19, 201312 yr Be cool to have the seats from a hummer or or truck, captain chair made into outdoor chairs for the deck. Fun to also have the bed of an SSR turned into a hot tub or cooling tub based on the season of the year.
November 19, 201312 yr Author I now have a new hunt to go on!! I found a tailgate like that earlier in the year (wasn't for sale as it was on a makeshift trailer) but if I knew then what I know now, I'd have stopped and asked. Once the hunt's done, I'll have to restore the tailgate (myslef, which will be an interesting project) and then find a welder looking for a custom project to make-up a bench seat frame for it. Do I go all retro and stay industrial (using all metal), or do I go rustic and find wood for the seat?
November 19, 201312 yr Author Too bad I'm a stickler for the year I want ('55-'66), as this late '40s/early '50s version is in great shape: http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/pts/4145230724.html
November 20, 201312 yr First off, tho cool looking, I'm pretty sure that tailgate is NOT going to be comfortable to lean against. That aside, you could go either way on the seat bottom (wood or metal).I wonder how it would look with an expanded metal over the tailgate, something about 75% open. If that would work, you could do a 2nd tailgate for the bottom, the same way (this would NOT be a light weight bench!). Welding the frame up would be a cinch. I do like the lamp in the link.

November 20, 201312 yr I'd prefer one of these with a hood ornament, and possibly 50/50 d'Elegance seating.http://ontario.kijiji.ca/c-buy-and-sell-art-collectibles-caddy-desk-W0QQAdIdZ470825464 Edited November 20, 201312 yr by KevinW
