Mitsubishi Motors Starts The Year With A 4.5 Percent Increase In January

CYPRESS, Calif., Feb. 3, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Mitsubishi Motors North America (MMNA) today reported January sales of 4,867, up 4.5 percent compared to January 2013.

Mitsubishi's Outlander and Outlander Sport, "American's Safest CUV Line-up," led the way. The U.S.-built Outlander Sport achieved an increase of 36.1 percent for the month compared to prior year sales. Outlander did even better, with a 53.5 percent increase.

The all-new Mitsubishi Mirage had 1,170 units sold in the vehicle's third full month of sales. Mirage was recently named to the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy's prestigious "Greenest Vehicles" list for the 2014 model year.

"This marked MMNA's best January sales since 2011," said MMNA President & CEO Yoichi Yokozawa. "We're pleased at the efforts of our sales team and our dealer partners in overcoming some weather obstacles to get the year off on the right foot."

More highlights of January sales:

  • Outlander sales were 941 units, an increase of 53.5 percent and the best January of Outlander sales in 7 years (2007).
  • Outlander Sport sales were 1,838 units, an increase of 36.1 percent and the best-ever January for sales of the model (launched in 2010).
  • Lancer Evolution sales increased 13.9 percent compared to January 2013.
  • Mitsubishi sales compared to prior year increased for the fourth consecutive month and have shown an increase in six of the last seven months.
