I doubt they'll make a production model but has anyone heard anything?

If you love it, go for it. It is what makes things so interesting. Look at the Jeep Renegade and the compass it will replace. I posted comparison pics in that thread and it really is interesting.

I like this Nissan and I think it would be good for GM to make a competitive model

A production version would necessarily be toned down a bit. I love the hark back to the legendary 510 and I want them to build it. It appears to be much more livable than the Subaru BLT, for example.
