The Jetta continues to be the volume car for Volkswagen, selling 9,929 units, up 32.4 percent as compared to last year’s sales of 7,498. With an increase of 52.9 percent, the Passat sedan posted sales of 3,466. Year-to-date sales are 73,824, an increase of 20.4 percent over prior year sales of 61,336. May 3, 200619 yr I've seen one Pharton...it's a great car...just not a good seller. It's funny, Dodge, Ford and Chevy have halo cars that are as/more espensive than the Phaeton, but they sell fine. Either VW should have set teh sales way lower, or it's just a case of luxury doesn't make as a good a halo car for an everyman brand as porformance.

But the Viper, GT, and Corvette neither have more appropriate brands of their own (Audi) nor do they look like other cars in the stable (Passat). They should've decontented all the pointless crap and the LWB version instead selling it as a step above the Passat - the VW sedan for the male who doesn't want to be a sorority chick.
