Even though the Ram ProMaster City is hitting dealerships right now, there is already talk of expanding the lineup.

Edmunds spoke with Joe Benson, head of Ram's commercial truck operations who hinted that more variations of the ProMaster City could be forthcoming if the demand is there.

"When we learn more about our customer needs here, then we can go to that portfolio and bring in what we need, which includes the diesel engine, a short wheelbase, maybe a seven-passenger version. We have that flexibility in the future," said Benson.

Other models up for consideration include a high-roof variant and a pickup variant with drop-down sides to access the cargo bed.

Benson predicts that sales of compact cargo vans to reach 100,000 units by 2016, a two-fold increase to the 50,000 units predicted for this year. His reasoning comes from owners of the Chevrolet Astro and GMC Safari vans looking to get into a new van.

That will be interesting to see, wonder if the drop down sides of the pickup are as flimsy as what I have seen on models in Europe and Asia.

I find it telling that they mention the Astro/Safari, which has been out of production for what... a decade now?  That speaks to the durability of the GM vans.


A pickup model would ROCK, even with drop-down sides.  Just think, a Blacktop Promaster City, slammed!  WICKED!  :)

Interesting, surprised it looks so feminine and not a work truck. Yet if it gets the job done guess ugly and feminine can work.

The jelly bean front end has always been associated with more feminine style. Both my wife and Daughter said it looked like a truck a woman would build and drive not Manly like the Terrain. Blocky looks tend to be more buch or manly looking compared to curvy more feminine look. The last generation Yukon was more feminine looking than the current new one.
