The Chevrolet Bolt concept will be heading into production in late 2016, with sales beginning in 2017. But there is the question of whether or not the 'Bolt' name will go on the production model or not. The name is confusing as it sounds similar to the Chevrolet Volt.

"Some people think it's confusing. "People are having some fun with it. It is generating awareness, which is good. It's so conversational," said Alan Batey, president of GM North America to the Detroit Free Press.

Batey did say that there is a debate going on General Motors of whether to keep the Bolt name or go with something else.

"We're still in the decision phase. It could go either way," said Batey.

Whether or not the Bolt name changes, Batey said there will be a clear difference between the Bolt and Volt.

Between the two, I prefer Bolt actually.
I have no isse with Chevy using both, either.

I personally like both names. and would be happy with them both.

At the same time, this might just be right to retire VOLT and build a Family of EV Names.

Bolt is a brilliant name for the car.  First, it rhymes with Volt.  Second, a bolt of lightning is a strong electrical force.  And third, for us oldtimers, it connects to the venerable Chevy Stovebolt Six.  If they name it something else, the car loses its magic.

They can do better.

At least it is not as bad as Impact. Never call a car Impact. Dodge and Ram is bad enough if you think about it.

I don't like the Bolt name.  My first thought was not bolt of lightning, but rather nuts and bolts.  Too close to Volt too.  However, it's better than any alphanumeric.

So If we go with the Chevy VOLT start we could then have the following auto's

Chevy BOLT

Chevy JOLT

or we could go with

Chevy Strike

Chevy Shock

Chevy Voltaic

Chevy Juiced

Chevy Stirring

Chevy Stimulating

So many ways to play the electric theme! :P

Why not just use Ampera? Not like Opel is going to be using it anymore.

That works for an auto traditionalist like me.  Think it'll fly with a company trying to target the "hip, young" crowd?

Actually in the US, Yes I think it would fly with the Hip young crowd.

Marketing by GM would have some hip young group using electric instruments with various amps projecting the music and show case the car.

Ampera - Your 22nd Century Ride has arrived!

Get it at your local Chevy!

Make sure to allow interior customization packages so the young crowd can rock their ride.

Ampera is too feminine.  Bolt is masculine, and if any type of vehicle needs a shot of testosterone, it is an electric.

Not a fan of the Bolt name. How about instead of Ampera, just Chevy Amp? Or you could really target the competition & call it the Chevy Nikola, but everyone would misspell it. lol
