March 3, 201511 yr Mazda came within striking distance of overthrowing VW. Given Mitsubishi's resurgence, I would expect it to exceed VW in two-three years.
March 3, 201511 yr The entire VW Titanic Ship brand sinking while Golf frantically tries to bail out the boat with a 5 gallon bucket.
March 4, 201511 yr Volkswagen is hurting and it's really not all that surprising. They bet all their money on value only to have it backfire. Not only that, but they've been moving at a snail's pace. Their line-up today is not all that different from their line-up as seen 3-4 years ago. They've made a few small updates to select models, and we do finally have the new Golf (which was unveiled 3 years ago), but very little progress has been made. Old tech, tired design, and questionable marketing (or lack thereof; plus a craptacular website model) have not helped.
March 4, 201511 yr So Could VW be looking at having to do what GM and Chrysler did in the Near future? Me think so in some ways!
March 4, 201511 yr So Could VW be looking at having to do what GM and Chrysler did in the Near future? Me think so in some ways! No. VW is still strong in EU/China. However, I have had doubts on its balance sheet, since VW-Porshce fiasco. There may be a gap between perception and reality of VW's financial strength.

Yeah, there are rumors flying around that Volkswagen could cut some models to help out.
