"mid-size" is a relative term, so of course this generation mid-size/intermediates are much larger than you're used to. You should see what I own: 18 feet overall is average (that would be 'full-size').

Malibu/Chevelle '70-72 are of the same generation. '70 had quad headlights, '71-72 has dual. A billion pics online if you look. Prior to that, '68-69 share the same bodyshell, '66-67: another shell. 2 billion more online pics of those, too.

RE: interior packaging: right, we've 'come a long way' with cramming people into cars so tightly you can barely shift position during a lengthy drive or turn (as a passenger) to the back seat. Every cubby and glovebox is an irregular, compromised space- awful. If only sardines could drive...

On a size-related note; I am cutting up a bad '65 Bonneville for scrap (it was not savable realtive to it's value). The trunk pan (going to another '65 in MN) measures 76" from side-to-side by roughly 50" front to back. You could sleep 2 in there. I miss that volume of cargo space in cars- another reason pick-ups & SUVs have grown in popularity over the last 30-some years.

I disagree on your assessment of interior space...I am quite comfortable in my M-Class, my father's DTS, and his DHS. The most uncomfortable Caddy we have is actually the 1980 Sedan de Ville...the ergonomics are just off.

Still, here's a '70 Chevrolet Malibu 4-dr sedan.

Looks pretty similar, though the "Malibu" is done is a script. What's the 73 redesign look like? I'm gonna guess it's the next gen, but my camera phone pic is small. I'll try and upload it ASAP but I may have left my cable in Indianapolis.

A '66 Chevelle is the only A-Body Chevy I would consider owning: I seldom see them relative to other Chevelles and I really do feel Chevy nailed it's lines 100%. A 2-dr hardtop or an El Camino... if I had to own a vintage Chevy car.

Oh, I know...it's just that the Malibu script was right there where I was looking at it. It's a nice design...that's why I loved the Skunkworks Chevelle project so much, though that design is really a full-sized design.
