May 4, 200619 yr No, not the N-Body Classic...this is a true classic...or in this case a true blue classic. WOW...what a ways we've come since the 1970s with regards to interior packaging...some "midsizer" lol those things are looooooooooooooooong It's a 4-dr...and therefore I cannot find pics to tell you what generation it is...but I am guessing it's from the early-mid 1970s...so take your pic. Kinda cool...but its a BARGE
May 4, 200619 yr "mid-size" is a relative term, so of course this generation mid-size/intermediates are much larger than you're used to. You should see what I own: 18 feet overall is average (that would be 'full-size'). Malibu/Chevelle '70-72 are of the same generation. '70 had quad headlights, '71-72 has dual. A billion pics online if you look. Prior to that, '68-69 share the same bodyshell, '66-67: another shell. 2 billion more online pics of those, too. RE: interior packaging: right, we've 'come a long way' with cramming people into cars so tightly you can barely shift position during a lengthy drive or turn (as a passenger) to the back seat. Every cubby and glovebox is an irregular, compromised space- awful. If only sardines could drive... On a size-related note; I am cutting up a bad '65 Bonneville for scrap (it was not savable realtive to it's value). The trunk pan (going to another '65 in MN) measures 76" from side-to-side by roughly 50" front to back. You could sleep 2 in there. I miss that volume of cargo space in cars- another reason pick-ups & SUVs have grown in popularity over the last 30-some years.
May 4, 200619 yr Author I found 2 billion coupes...but no sedans...people just don't seem to be as willing to brag about them. I disagree on your assessment of interior space...I am quite comfortable in my M-Class, my father's DTS, and his DHS. The most uncomfortable Caddy we have is actually the 1980 Sedan de Ville...the ergonomics are just off.
May 5, 200619 yr I found 2 billion coupes...but no sedans...people just don't seem to be as willing to brag about them. Why did you waste your time counting to 2 billion?
May 5, 200619 yr Just gotta know where to look. As far as ID'ing the vintage, it matters not, the door count. Still, here's a '70 Chevrolet Malibu 4-dr sedan.
May 5, 200619 yr Author Looks pretty similar, though the "Malibu" is done is a script. What's the 73 redesign look like? I'm gonna guess it's the next gen, but my camera phone pic is small. I'll try and upload it ASAP but I may have left my cable in Indianapolis.
May 5, 200619 yr The 1973 was much different. The only decent pic I could find was of a coupe: This is a 1974 sedan for comparison: I just saw one of those yesterday
May 5, 200619 yr Kinda cool...but its a BARGE *chuckles* I know about the "cool" factor ... and being a "barge" ... since the MC was similar to the Chevelle/Malibu. Too bad you didn't get any pics of the one you saw, Croc. Cort, "Mr MC" / "Mr Road Trip", 32swm/pig valve/pacemaker MC:family.IL.guide.future = http://www.chevyasylum.com/cort/ Models.HO = http://www.chevyasylum.com/cort/trainroom.html "I wonder if it's too late" ... Nickelback ... 'Photograph'
May 5, 200619 yr Author No, I do have a pic...but it's on my cameraphone. I'll look for the upload cable again...and if I find it I shall post it.
May 5, 200619 yr Author Yup, it's a hardtop alright. I just went out and checked it, and sure enough, it is! Edited May 5, 200619 yr by Croc
May 7, 200619 yr A '66 Chevelle is the only A-Body Chevy I would consider owning: I seldom see them relative to other Chevelles and I really do feel Chevy nailed it's lines 100%. A 2-dr hardtop or an El Camino... if I had to own a vintage Chevy car.
May 7, 200619 yr Author BTW: "Malibu" was just a trim package until '78, the car in question is a Chevelle. Oh, I know...it's just that the Malibu script was right there where I was looking at it. It's a nice design...that's why I loved the Skunkworks Chevelle project so much, though that design is really a full-sized design.
