The Department of Justice is currently evaluating whether or not to charge General Motors with criminal wire fraud due to the company's failure to recall vehicles with faulty ignition switches. The Wall Street Journal has learned from sources federal prosecutors in New York are zoning in the wire-fraud charge due after it was determined that GM made misleading statements and concealed information about the faulty switch.

 

Sources go on to say the DOJ hopes to reach a settlement by late summer or early, though that could change. Prosecutors are also looking into other kinds of possible criminal charges.

 

When asked about the report, CEO Mary Barra said,

 

“It is their timeline. We are going to continue to cooperate to the fullest extent we can. But beyond that, I think anything else is pure speculation and it does no one any good.”

 

Barra confirmed that she spoke and fully cooperated with DOJ investigators last year about the ignition switch defect.

Wow, this is serious news.  

I would normally side with some who just want GM to get past this and get back to making cars.....but efff that.  People suffered. Are still suffering in fact, and families will forever suffer. And for what?

 

No, first and foremost, justice must prevail here and lessons must be learned and remembered.

This BS needs to stop. If they want to fine GM then do it and get it over with but the witch hunt to fine a way to charge GM with something no one knows exactly who or what to charge them with is getting ridicules.

 

Yes people got hurt but so many of them also got hurt because they did not make use of the basic things like a seat belt and not  driving while under the influence. what normally would have either avoided an accident in the first place or saved their life was ignored.

GM should be fined but the fact is with the damaged culture and layered management they had at the time odds are only a few people knew what really happened and they will not talk because they will not want to incriminate themselves. GM at this time was all about meeting and making numbers. The higher ups for the most part had no idea what was going on as long as people met metrics. Many at mid management fudged and hid much and is much of what sent GM to chapter 11 in the first place.

 

So unless you can find where some one can be proven beyond a doubt did something all they can do is collectively fine GM like they did Toyota to let the government save face on their lack of knowing what was going on and move on.

 

A lot of people on all sides screwed up here and not only GM.

 

If it were not for the anti GM media and blood sucking lawyers this would have long passed.

Well, it's definitely got a whiff of hypocrisy about it.

Amazing how many IDIOTS want to Persecute GM and yet Toyota got a slap on the wrist with a fine for their Crap sticky gas pedals which was mostly user error and lack of end users keeping the floor mats in place.

 

Such Lazy IDIOTS reminds me of the MB ML450 statements about their transmission and how an end user said they did not know that if they just turned off the auto it would not go into park by itself but into neutral.

 

Driving is a privilege and you earn the right to do it and most of the deaths were not due to the ignition switch but due to poor choices those people made like HyperV6 stated.

Make you wonder if GM will get sued for the guy who died with his dog in his Corvette in TX. The battery was dead and he could not figure out how to open the doors? They said he died looking at the owners manual.

 

I hate to see anyone die but some people really make it hard for them to live a full life.
