December 6, 201510 yr Henry Ford wasn't arrogant so much as he was a pioneer-nobody had ever combined ideas like he did with such success. He was a visionary who eventually became a prisoner of his vision, both with product (his obsession with the Model T allowed GM's brand strategy to overtake him in the 20s and never look back) and with business (running roughshod over Edsel). Elon Musk is a compelling character. But he's trying to change the automotive world, not create it. It sounds like you described Tesla as well there though. Pioneer. Nobody combined ideas like his. Prisoner of his own vision. Edited December 6, 201510 yr by ccap41
December 6, 201510 yr Author Either way, it would be an object lesson for Musk. From my perspective, he never perfected the assembly line, nor has he been able to capitalize on the cost savings inherent in such a venture. These things were already done, long ago. He isn't even the first guy to have a good stab at electric cars-Studebaker in particular was really good at them before the Model T's sheer numbers and similar torque squashed development of them. Hey, I'm not hating on the idea of electric cars. Nor am I hating on Elon Musk. But even a self-made billionaire is going to face an uphill battle going against long established carmakers once he has their undivided attention.
December 6, 201510 yr Studebaker's driving range back then prolly closely matches Tesla's in 2015. That is the problem with electrics...
December 6, 201510 yr If that is the case....Id rather the horse and buggy. A lttle watermelon and she goes a long way....no GPS needed as a horse knows where you are going and remembers where you have been. You want zero emissions...you got it!!! Other than a few farts and tarts, pretty clean...OK....dung on the roads was a problem....we could just call it fertilizer... Autonomous driving? Hey..its the original... Speed kills? Not with horses....horses know to avoid other horses... Your wife leaves you? You got your trusted Clydesdale by your side... Horse and buggy above all else... And guys...I aint kidding around... Why would I want a logo of a prancing horse on the hood of my car when I could have a real prancing horse... The only problem I foresee with all that is that I like power of 300 horses as opposed to...1 Edited December 6, 201510 yr by oldshurst442
