DeLorean Back in Production Starting 2016

Delorean Motor Company is starting up production of the original car selling for less than $100,000 at their new production site in Humble Texas according to the story and interview with CEO Stephen Wynne.

Under a low production bill approved in DC, this company is now funded to start up production of the DeLorean with a variety of engines.

According to the story, refurbished DeLoreans sell for between $45,000 and $50,000, so a new one with a variety of Power Trains priced under $100,000 should do well according to the CEO.

What are your thoughts? Can DeLorean make a come back? Should they stick with the engine they have, use a modern Turbo 4 or TT V6 or go pure EV?

Sound off on your thoughts about this.

I see 2 years of production, then it folds.

I believe there is very very little demand for it, and no; the engine choices aren't a major factor.

Wonder if they will update the lights to use LED rather than the old bulbs, be interesting to see if they do this as a kit car and keep it the same or if they modernize it.

A modernized Stainless Steel car like this with the Turbo 4 or 6 or Electric motor should get people interested, but I agree I think it is a limited market for a two door two person sports car.

It's a fun, niche kind of vehicle. It ought to be fun to read a road test on it, and it'll make a few wealthy Marty McFly wannabes happy.

The engine in the original was a 130hp lump, they can do better than that. I wonder if they will upgrade to modern size tires and wheels..if not for the BTTF movies, the DeLorean would be a forgotten marque like the Bricklin...  the stainless steel body was an interesting detail.   I always liked the angular styling of these..the styling alone definitely stands out amongst the angry plasticky designs of today..

Hopefully they deliver on the option of a modern Turbo 4 and Turbo V6 that would really move this car.
