This past weekend, on the 7th of May 2006 I joined

XP715 and SpeedingPenguin in Welsley Mass at the

site of an old Olds dealer for a fantastic car show.

XP715 Brought his beater, the one he stores at my

house. It's the 1977 Cutlass Supreme we're always

talking about. They were very polite to us despite

the car looking like a well worn daily driver and not

some trailer queen. The local Oldsmobile Club even

took photos of it for posterity.

About 70% of the show consisted of late 60s to

early 70s Cutlasses/442s. I was dissapointed to see

only a few 50s cars and just two Pre-WWII cars.

The shot of XP's ride with the hood up on showcase is classic! Nice pics.... and I see they still have the old dealer sign up with the rocket logo and everthing.

In the Alero: can someone please scrape off that low-class bowtie and replace it with an elegant ROCKET logo?

Actually I think my '77 Cutlass goes good with a flannel shirt and a restraining order, and that's why I love it so much; great patina with just the right amount of dirtbag mixed in. But I must say, as Sixty8 alluded to before, everybody at the show was nice and respectful, and was genuinely interested as to where I found such an unusual car in such original shape. I told people straight up that I knew it was the scummiest car there, but every inch an Olds and that was the important thing I thought; and with the purchase price of $230, nobody could argue with me that it was a great buy. But yeah, she certainly isn't a show car in any stretch of the word, but that's how I prefer it. I plan on driving the wheels off of it. I think if I was the only car there that day I might have walked away with a third place trophy

Sixty8: do you have any more pictures of that burgundy '64 Starfire that was there, like the second to last one closest to the front of the dealership? That car was absolutely flawless and the paint was a mile deep; I'd love to see more photos if you have any.

I'm really digging that Olds dealership sign. That's got to be old.. I don't recall seeing that type of sign in the last 15 years.

Is the Olds dealership still open? Or has it become an "Olds" museum? Looks like a cool place for a car show.

$230 bucks for your Olds? Great deal! Why can't I ever find deals like that? I mean the wife would have to let me keep a car/truck that only cost that much, wouldn't she???

I've even gotten yelled at for bringing home free cars that

were to be used for the demolition derby. Marcia's pretty

cool actually, she's been all "let's restore the Camaro

oinstead of buying a 59 Buick... but I'm all et with that"

I'd rather have a 2009 Camaro & a classic Delta winged

shark nosed beast from the late 50s.

No matter how nice the Camaro is it will be another 1st gen.

Camaro... there's tons of them and they're all going to be

restored, but if I have a 59 Buick even in rough cosmetic

shape it will be a bitchin car, very unique and it will turn

heads, I have yet to see one EVER on a road in motion.

I actuallly called up XP and told him to.

come w/ me ot check out the Cutlass

for $h!s & giggles since it was a very

odd car. The guy lived like 1/2 mile

away from me right by the Tyngsboro

bridge and it was killing me WTF was

up with the IDAHO plates on it.

Very cool pics guys...as an Olds owner I am so pissed I missed this No Delta 88's?

Cool car show. Looked like a nice local event. Love the Olds sign and the fact its still standing. The 76-77 Cutlass 2 door is one of my favorite cars for sentimental reasons. There are still some gems out there. I check ebay once a week for them.

Okay, so now it's time for the grand finale:

Everyone here on this site knows that my

love for 59 Buicks has heated up to a

boiling point as of the last year or so. This

is due in part to staring at Balthazar's

awsome Avatar for months on end. Those

canted headlights are addictive.

Anyway I'm trying to stick to my plan of

buying a 59 Buick when I sell the Camaro

and NOTHING else. However every once

in a while I'm tempted soooooo bad.

Quick story:

A guy at this car show had struck up a

conbversation with me. He had 13 classic

cars and needs to get rid of a few. He brought

his 1967 442 post to the show but also has a

few photos of a VERY clean 1964 Oldsmobile

Super 88 four door hardtop.

It's all original and only has 24,ooo original

miles. Some lady never took it out of her

garage for a couple decades when her dad died

because it was willed to her.

The car is white with a blue interior, and like

you guys know I'm a sucker for four door

hardtops. I love 'em like big breasts & J-lo

butts.

So the car needs a valvejob and a some TLC

because of its lengthy storage but is otherwise

in fantastic shape. 24K original miles!

You know what he's asking? $3000.

Three measley thousand dollars. If I knew that

the motor is truly okay wiht the exception of

the valvejob and I had $3000 I would have bought it

just based on the photos. I took a photo of

a photo for $h!'s & giggles... check it out:

It's skewed because of the camera angle on the

photograph. But you get the point. I guess two

cylinders on the right bank do not have any

compression... that's why he'[s saying it's in

need of a valvejob.

And while we're on the topic of these gorgeous cars

here's some more mid-60s Oldsmobiles wiht those

super cool full length "fins". I LOVE these cars!

The 63's tail lights are not as sleek but the car

is still gorgeous.

I love the 63's taillamps. As a matter of fact, my parents had a '63 Ninety Eight Luxury Sedan in a medium blue mettalic that they kept for years until they traded it for the sedan version (in "Platinum Irridescent") of the '70's Ninety Eight in the second photo.

(Checking my garage) *whew*... I thought they stole my truck when I looked at the (awesome) RWD Alero pics. But no, it's still there.

Sixty8, is this dealership far away from you? The reason I ask is that I'd like for you to go back and get a real good shot of that Olds dealership sign if it's not far. That sign is great looking and I've never seen any like it before.

I have a friend that lives in Newton (Right next to the town the dealership is in), next time I go down there (dont know when it will be), I could try and get some pics of the dealership sign if I can..... unless Sixty8 wants to take a trip down there just to get pics of it, LOL

Blazer... that's fine. Now have the balls to

own up to the true manufacturer of your

powerplant.

Nice Oldsmos. I know a guy at work that runs a Ford Ranger w/

383 Chevy power- narrowed rr end etc....He slapped a bowtie

outline emblem on top of the blue oval front and back. I like it...

More and more I beleive in the concept of 'fate'.

This car found ME not the otehr way around.

But does anybody know where there is a pristine Oldsmobile dealer just sitting there? Why has it not been torn down? Whats going on there?
