Many of you might have been wondering about the 1959 Buick

in my recent signature. Or perhaps none of you give a damn.

Either way if you're still reading this here's the scoop.

If you have searched for "1959 Buck" or "1959 Electra" on

Google in the past 9 months or so you have no doubt seen a

faded blue four door flat top 1959 Buick sittign in front of a

long gray building.

The car is for sale, asking price is $5900 and as if just so

happens it is only about 130 miles away from me at a place

called Goldenrod Garage. The home page for Goldenrod

promisses "300 plus classic cars at all times in the inventory".

A no-nonsense race car driver & antique car nut called Neil

runs the place and after a few conversations wiht him I simply

HAD to go see the car in the flash, or steel, glass, rubber &

rust as it may be.

Well, this past Friday I recruited XP to go on a Roadtrip with

me up there to see all these cars, in various states of decay.

He's been itching to take the 1977 Olds for a good roadtrip

so this was the perfect.

What follows is a writeup of but a few of the "gems" found at

this magnificent Antique Car & Truck dealership.

First off here is the main event. A 1959 Buick 4-door

hardtop of the flat top variety. This one's an Electra

and I did not have a chance to pop the hood and get

the stats off the firewall tag but suposedly it's 401

nailhead powered and runs and yard drives. It does

however need a master cylinder for the power brakes.

Of course I had to get a few photos of me with this Beauty.

I love the Patina, love the hardtop bodystyle and I love the

way it's sandwiched between a 1940s Pontiac & a 1930s

Chevrolet vintage race car.

Now next up for your viewing pleasure is a 1962

Cadillac Flower car. I have a feelign this was a

home-made variety flower car but in any case it

was cool to see.

This was probably the oldest car that Neil had there

that is still restorable & mostly complete. It's a 1924

Ford Express Truck. Very cool to see in person.

Chevrolet Fire Truck with a Civil Service Seal not

unlike the one on the side of your COE Ford.

Although this one has a lot less of that super cool

patina, but it still has a some very neat details.

Another unique truck. When's the last time you

saw an International Crew Cab of this vintage?

Never mind that it's a Firetruck.

Are you into independants? Like wagons? This guy

has something for everyone. He's a little too obsessed

with 50s Fords IMHO but to each their own.

It's pretty much mint for an 1981 Malibu.

Befoer we bought the Q45 I almost dragged

Marcia up there to buy that 1994 Caprice

9C1 w/ the light bars & all...the only reason

why that couldn't happen was that it was

over 10 years old and therefore not able to

be financed.

KF: There was but one classic Monte Carlo there, a 1970

in white but for some reason it's not listed on the website.

There is another classic there as well behind the fire truck and black beetle lol. Was there are nice cond. 80s cars that you thought were interesting and did you see the 67 Grand Prix black conv. It is on the website and it looks beautiful. By the way, do you know if there were any 85 to 93 two door Blazers sitting around. I want to find a cheap one and make it a project vehicle when I get money.

Yes- the Caddy flower car has to be a 'homemade' one- as all 'official' flower cars were on the extended wheelbase commercial chassis and this one is obviously a standard Series 62/63 wheelbase. Could still be something really cool if done half decently.

GoldenRod has been advertising in every issue of Hemmings for over 20 years- they've always featured at least 1 really intriquing ride every month. Usually always some sort of pro car or 8-door limo or custom. I would have loved to have gone with you guys.

I like the late '40s Chevy truck, and the '59 Edsel convert in your sig. Wonder if I can qualify my '40 for some sort of latent federal Civil Defense grant money or something....

Of course it's homemade; I can't believe Sixty8 never said anything about the back portion of the cab. Looks to me like someone used the rear door from an Oldsmobile station wagon of roughly the same vintage. It had a power window, a windshield wiper, and that circle thing in the middle? That's a little emblem that says "Holiday" on it. Seems awful likely to me.
