California does first gas tax increase in 23 Years

Featured Replies

According to Channel 3 KCRA news as reported on msn.com, California has pushed through their first gas tax raise in 23 years to address their $130 Billion plus backlog of road repairs / upgrades. This will be covered by the following increases:

Gas tax $.12 per gallon

Diesel $.20 per gallon

Auto Registration $25 - $175 per auto.

They say this will add about $10 per month to the average driver's monthly cost. While many people say it is more expensive and will be tougher, they also say the roads are needed to be repaired. Interesting is while this got pushed through by the Governor, republicans in the state which are a minority in both houses say this is a contest between the house and senate of California to see how expensive they can make it to drive and live in California.

California has no clue how to budget. The only thing they understand is gouging business and individuals to support bloated government.  They say this time the revenue from this tax will only be used for its stated purpose. Yea, heard that more than once. :rolleyes:. You can bet industry that has the ability will just shift things to another state if they have the ability. I know my company is now just going to register it's truck fleet outside California because they can. It will save them thousands and California will loose all that revenue. Multiply that by everyone else that will do similar and California looses millions/billions.  Though the average person has no way do dodge the registration fee. And nothing can be done about what you pay if you pull up to the pump. As for diesel,. It's already more expensive than premium I'm much of California. Now even more so. Kinda kills any benefit to getting something like the Cruze or TDI of some kind. Which I'm sure the greenies will like.

@Scout & @ocnblu I totally agree guys.

What is amazing is they did a recall and kick Gov brown out and brought in Arnold, the Governator and then since he was in office for two terms, it allowed the time limit to pass and so brown got back into the gov chair for his third term in office and what very well could be a fourth term. Stupid laws in CA, stupid GOV.

Just like all states, Politicians know how to spend but are clueless on how to budget and live within that budget.

Example, Educators of Washington state are not properly funded by the supreme court. 1 billion shortfall and the state has till mid year to shore up the education fund. They are talking about all kinds of tax's and yet nothing about reduction of spending especially when you look at DHSH or what is known as the social services group of Washington and they spent 1 billion last year for illegal medical and are stated to spend it again this year.

Hello McFly, stop spending on what is not to be a cost of tax payers and put it into the future workers of America.

So irritating. :nono::nono::nono:
