The new Volkswagen Tiguan looks to solve some of the pressing issues of the current model such as its size that puts it between subcompact and compact crossovers. But that doesn't mean the current Tiguan is leaving anytime soon.

Hendrik Muth, VW’s senior vice president for product marketing tells Car and Driver that the current Tiguan will stick around for 2018 and 2019, wearing the Tiguan Limited nameplate. Muth explained this model will be aimed at more budget-minded buyers and those who don't want the bigger footprint of the new Tiguan. Another reason mentioned in Car and Driver's story is the current Tiguan saw its best sales in 2015 and 2016.

One item that could put some people off from buying the Tiguan Limited is will not get the  6-year/72,000-mile warranty announced for the 2018 Atlas and Tiguan crossovers. Expect pricing to be announced sometime in the fall.

Was a weird little CUV. It will sell on price alone I bet and then fad into history. Plus I bet they need to keep production going till they get the others up to speed. Makes sense as they grow their CUV fleet of Auto's.

I wonder if VW will use the assembly line to then build their EV's once they have them ready for production. Then just shift the Tiguan Limited production to make EV production.

They are going to have to massively lower the price on these. As it stands, they are way overpriced.

The biggest problem is that they are too much smaller than competitors, and they are sorely lacking today's latest safety tech. There's no blind-spot, lane-detection, cross-traffic, any of that offered. You can't charge 38K in today's market for a vehicle lacking such features. Then there's the stiff ride, the poor gas mileage, and the fact it's one of VW's least reliable vehicles.

The Tiguan does have it's strong suites- handling, acceleration, interior quality. But there's not enough good to outweigh the drawbacks.

They should just give us the SWB model of the new Tiguan as well.
