" The U.S. Supreme Court has rejected an appeal from General Motors to stop hundreds of lawsuits related to faulty ignition switches, reports The Detroit News. Now, the automaker faces up to $10 billion in damages from the additional claims.

The court upheld a previous ruling that said the automaker couldn’t use its previous bankruptcy as a way to avoid ignition switch claims involving death, injury, and economic loss from the depreciation of affected vehicles. Last year, a federal appeals court argued GM must face these pre-bankruptcy claims because it knew about a problem with its ignition switches for more than a decade and decided to keep the matter a secret. I agree that they shouldn't be able to use the bankruptcy as a way to get out of it and they're responsible for their own actions but I wish some of the rulings were more fair. I've heard of people dying in drunk driving accidents and the family goes after GM for the ignition switch when that clearly had NOTHING to do with the accident..and winning.

Both are true... but the second half of that should be handled by the lower courts and GM should not be able to hide behind the BK
