Camaro Concept trivia

Featured Replies

The 2006 Camaro concept has incredikble styling,

almost all of us agree about that. But now see how

well you've really looked at it.

Other than the b-pillar delete, hardtop bodystyle

the Camaro has an interesting styling element that

is virtually non-existant on today's cars. One of the

last cars to have it was a FWD Oldsmobile. If you

skew the definition of this component you might

say there was also an Acura which was made in

both 2dr & 4dr body styles that had this too.

What feature am I talking bout?

------

ONE LAST HINT: This feature was most prevailant

from the mid 1970s to the mid 1980s.

Is the rear window fixed even though it is a hardtop?? ala '79-'85 Toronado?

No, no, no, no, no! Thank God that is NOT the case. ^_^

You've got the right idea for the most part.

Bump!

My 1968 Camaro has it, so did my 1994 Oldsmobile...

it was a Cutlass Siera BTW, but the 1964 Oldsmobile

Super 88 holiday I want real bad does not. :D

is it the angled line on window? like how it angles up over the kick thingy...

A hood that ends before the headlights?

The Camaro has it, the Cutlass Ciera has it, most cars today have hoods that touch at least part of their headlights. The Integra, however, had headlights that were entirely in the bumper.

I somehow doubt this was the answer you were looking for, but... it works!

I would guess you are correct. There is body panel forward of the hood leading edge. I have thought about that before when looking at this car, how they don't really do that any more.

That's right... the '68 Camaro and '94 Cutlass Ciera &

even my '86 & '87 Fleetwood Broughams had waht's

commonly refered to as a "header panel". The Acura

does not technically have a header panel since it's all

a part of the bumper cover but it fits the definition

otherwise.

I have no idea what this is.. can you like outline it in a picture, please?

See the area between the hood cutout and the front of the car? That's the "header panel"

Okay, but only when it's not a part of the bumper/

Actually, you're right. The 5th gen actually combines the header panel with the front bumper. The first-gen Camaro had a true "header panel" that housed the lights and grille. Manufacturers used to get away with year-to-year front end redos by just changing the header panel. Take a look at this Camaro:

See the seam that continues the hood cutout line to the front of the car? The header panel is in between those seams.

Okay, sweet; that's good to know.

BTW, Z, check out the pics I took with that camera in the Spring Pics (Members' Rides forum) thread. :)

Yes, you are right Z/28, like the Integra the

concept Camaro has a one piece bumper

cover and header panel. Either way it's nice

to see some traditional touches on a new car.

so are you suggesting that GM is gearing up to allow for year after year model refresh? similar to the 60's?

Nah, he contradicted himself after realizing the concept doesn't have a true header panel.

Not really a contradiction... it's a header panel either

way. Weather the seam is there or not on the concept

the car has a hood that stops short of the leading

edge of the grille. It's the fact that it harkens back to

1967 that I like.

Take a close, CLOSE look here:

There MIGHT be a header panel.. Hmm.

Yes... the production version might be two pieces.
