May 30, 200619 yr In our backyard sits an 86 oldsmobile delta 88, for some reason a few years ago the motor went kaput. The car is pretty good condition, even the interior. Im gonna end up getting another 3.0 V6 for it, heard horrible things about the 3.8's reliability. Probably gonna get a motor from a junkyard and clean it up, even run some engine cleaner through it, but does anyone on here have some ideas on things i can do to enhance the performance?
May 30, 200619 yr don;t run a motor flush through it...it'll eat through your seals, I learned that the hard way....also I have a 3.8 liter motor, it runs great. 3.8 will last a hell of a long time if taken care of. BTW My 79 Delta 88 is the car I ran the flush through and started leaking oil from every possible location not too long afterwards. My 1995 Riviera has the 3.8
May 30, 200619 yr 3.0 V6? If the car's been sittig for a while worry about getting to roadworthy first, performance can come after a few cans of RESTORE & a good trans. flush. As far as the 3800, it's a great motor, FWD or RWD the Buick 3.8 was voted one of the "best 10 engines of the 20th century".
May 30, 200619 yr Author Yes, a 3 liter V6 was the motor the base models (non-royales),came with. I'll take a look into the 3.8 then and thanks for the tips about the flush. Oh and 68, I was gonna change the fluid in the tranny anyways, been sittin back there since late 2000.
