North Haven Man Dies In Car Wash Accident

POSTED: 9:42 am EST February 20, 2006

HAMDEN, Conn. -- A 52-year-old man died Sunday when he was struck by a sport utility vehicle as it was coming out of a car wash building.

A police representative said Christopher Buonocore, of North Haven, Conn., was standing near his Cadillac outside the building when a Jeep that was exiting the car wash struck him and a worker at the Splash Car Wash.

The man died at Yale-New Haven Hospital, police said. The worker, Saul Castaneda, 20, of New Haven, Conn., was in stable condition at the hospital and was expected to recover.

Authorities said the accident happened when another car wash worker, Juan Cosett, 53, of Hamden, was pulling the Jeep away from the building after it had been washed.

Three parked vehicles were also damaged.

Police were investigating.
