I hate these articles... because they always remind me that I had to be smart to go to UBC and despite the fact that I live a stones throw away from it, I have to go across town to the "lesser" university filled with the hippie-dippie types who preach pinko-ism and tree-huggery...

UBC's science dept has broken much ground in cancer prevention and medicine in general... SFU's (mine) science dept seems more keen in finding ways to get more liquor in your system, faster... ^_^

Single occupancy pods that are smaller than a motorcycle will never become street legal...

However, attach larger wheels to it and give it such trivial things as headlights and tail lights, and you've got a potential Smart-killer.

antoine: I think you need to add a lot more than that for street legality. These things are NOT safe. Also, it seems a little silly to me to use gasoline at this point. I mean, there can't be that much energy in a single gallon of gas. In all the time it would take something that slow to make it across the country, couldn't you gain at least that much energy from solar?

I know it's a study in efficiency from gasoline, but I'm just not sure how much of the findings would actually be applicable.

Cool nonetheless, that's why I posted it.

Wow... MUCH cooler than the Prius.

Well, add headlights and tail lights for starters. We also know it needs turn signals, a catalytic converter a muffler, windshield wipers, a seat belt, an upright seat, an air bag, a crumple zone in the front and in the rear, side impact protection, side mirrors, a rearview mirror, a LATCH system, a hazard light button, extra ground clearance, front and rear reflectors, reflectors on the doors, a center high-mount brake light, sufficient power to reach 60 mph, and actual synthetic rubber tires instead of shopping cart wheels.

And tree-huggers wonder why modern cars get the same mileage they had 30 years ago.

actual synthetic rubber tires instead of shopping cart wheels.

I think they're actually bike wheels, take a close look at this picture:

Still not legal, but definately safer than small wheels would have been.
