June 28, 200619 yr Well, maybe not depressing in the way that Puff the Magic Dragon is depressing, but what songs do you find the most comfort in when you're feeling down or just need something a little slower? Evanescence-My Immortal Elton John-Your Song Fleetwood Mac-Gypsy, Dreams Jack Johnson-Flake
June 28, 200619 yr Usually when im depressed I listen to alot of Linkin Park songs like: My December Pushing Me Away Numb In the End Breaking the Habit Easier to Run
June 28, 200619 yr Pretty much anything from: Sarah Brightman Sarah McLachlan Depeche Mode I can become completely lost in the above. Limp Bizkit's version of "Behind Blue Eyes" is a good song. Loved the 'Gothika' movie too. Those are all I can think of at the moment for when I'm feeling vulnerable.
June 28, 200619 yr A few of the ones I can think of... Flogging Molly - Within A Mile Of Home, With A Wonder and A Wild Desire, Don't Let Me Die Still Wondering, What's Left Of The Flag, Death Valley Queen, If I Ever Leave This World Alive and Black Friday Rule Dropkick Murphys - Forever and Boys on the Docks (Murphy's Pub Version) The Beatles - Help!, Yesterday, Eleanor Rigby, We Can Work It Out, Hey Jude and Let It Be The Back Horn - Kizuna Song Bach - Toccata & Fugue in D Minor Holst - Mars and Jupiter Boston - More Than A Feeling Reel Big Fish - The Set-Up (You Need This) and Say Good Bye Foo Fighters - Best Of You System Of A Down - ATWA, Chop Suey!, Aerials, Roulette, ADD, BYOB, Revenga, Question!, Sad Statue, Tentative, Holy Mountains and Soldier Side I think that's enough.
June 28, 200619 yr John - I definately wouldn't call some of those depressing? "Help!"??? That's downright cheery sounding. Limp Bizkit's version of "Behind Blue Eyes" is a good song. A good song to stab Fred Durst to maybe. That song was a good case of: For me, there is one song I really notice the effect with. Matthew Good - The Fine Art of Falling Apart. It's even obvious from the title that it's a pretty depressing song.
June 28, 200619 yr How can you guys be allowed to live if you don't mention The Smiths and their frontman, Steven Patrick Morrissey? They are the best... A paltry few examples: First of the Gang to Die Redondo Beach Friday Mourning Last Night I Dreamt that Somebody Loved Me Girlfriend in a Coma This is quality $h!.
June 28, 200619 yr Along one of my mountain biking routes, there is a part that goes under a bridge that is under construction. There is a DANGER sign posted next to the trail, and they had originally written in "DANGER due to: overhead construction". Somebody came and changed it to "DANGER due to: Angry Morissey fans". Does this make any sense to anyone else?
June 28, 200619 yr Without thinking at all, two pop into my head: Landslide - Stevie Nicks Cowboy Take Me Away - Dixie Chicks (This one's a bit weird, but it makes me feel good. It's that cowboy thing I guess.) Edited June 28, 200619 yr by usonia
June 28, 200619 yr Normally when I'm feeling down I actually play songs that get me out of a bad mood (Van Halen's "Poundcake" for example"). Then again when I'm in a good mood I play the same songs too, usually power metal, glam metal or prog rock. ...They say stuff like that gives you brain damage. I don't agree. I've been listening to that stuff for years and I turned out Motley Crue...
June 28, 200619 yr Listening to Death From Above 1979 on my Pioneer system in the Cobalt probably has given me brain damage. People in other cars sometimes look around to see where the sound is coming from, it's pretty funny. Sometimes it's hard to see in the rear view because it vibrates so much.
June 28, 200619 yr I'm sorry I'm not hip or current with music as some of you, but my wife and one of my students likes a song by Coldplay that when I hear it depresses the &%$# out of me and makes me feel like committing suicide. I can't say I wish I knew the name of the song, but it's one of their recent, more popular ones.
Probably "The Scientist". It's one of the songs I do at karaoke that seems to impress people. Lyrics: I had to find you, Tell you I need you, Tell you I set you apart Tell me your secrets, And ask me your questions, Aww let’s go back to the start Runnin’ in circles, [sounds like] Comin’ our tails, Heads on the science apart Nobody said it was easy It’s such a shame for us to part Nobody said it was easy No one ever said it would be this hard Aww take me back to the start I was just guessin’, At numbers and figures, Pullin’ the puzzles apart Questions of science, Science and progress, Do not speak as loud as my heart Tell me you love me, Come back to haunt me, Oh when I rush to the start Runnin’ in circles, [sounds like] Chasin’ our tails, Comin’ back as we are Nobody said it was easy Aww It’s such a shame for us to part Nobody said it was easy No one ever said it would be so hard I’m goin’ back to the start Ahhooooooooooooooooo Ahhooooooooooooooooo Ahhooooooooooooooooo Ahhooooooooooooooooo Edited June 28, 200619 yr by the_yellow_dart
June 28, 200619 yr John - I definately wouldn't call some of those depressing? "Help!"??? That's downright cheery sounding. Consider the lyrics. Also, not all songs listed in here are going to be slow and depressing in their sound. Other songs listed could also be very cheery all-together, yet still fill this particular slot for a person, even if they wouldn't for you.
June 28, 200619 yr If I'm ever upset by the transition of time I find myself listening to Dream Theater's "A Change of Seasons". Yes, this is only because I'm an obsessive DT fan. Actually with recent troubles I've been listening to The Message on XM to help lift my spirits.
June 28, 200619 yr System Of A Down - ATWA, Chop Suey!, Aerials, Roulette, ADD, BYOB, Revenga, Question!, Sad Statue, Tentative, Holy Mountains and Soldier Side

June 29, 200619 yr Of the moment, A Perfect Circle's "3 Libras" comes to mind. This track is often played on cuts of TV shows. Great opener... Don't count out Dire Strait's "On Every Street." First 3 minutes of the song is a drumless piano track followed by a brilliant full instrumental jam.
July 1, 200619 yr Alice Cooper - Hell is Living Without You Blue Murder - Out of Love The '94 version of Bon Jovi's "Livin' on a Prayer"...much darker than the original Bruce Springsteen - My Hometown...for such a simple song, it's pretty haunting, especially for those of us in the Rust Belt Cinderella - Don't Know What You Got ('Til It's Gone) Def Leppard - Love Bites Deftones - Fireal Don Dokken - When Love Finds a Fool Doro - Give Me a Reason Dream Theater - Scene Nine: Finally Free Filter - I'm Not the Only One Giuffria - Say It Ain't True Great White - Old Rose Motel Kix - Don't Close Your Eyes Madonna - Live to Tell Megadeth - In My Darkest Hour Queensryche - The Killing Words Queen - Who Wants to Live Forever? Savatage - Summer's Rain Skid Row - Quicksand Jesus Smashing Pumpkins - Soma Warlock - Für Immer Most of the songs off Warrant's "Dog Eat Dog" album. It's an overlooked gem of the 90s, but it's kinda depressing...almost like they were coming off their high during the late 80s. Wildside - Kiss This Love Goodbye Winger - Headed for a Heartbreak XYZ - After the Rain
July 1, 200619 yr Maybe some will lose respect for me (LOL) but I don't care. The classic song "Stairway to Heaven" SOUNDS depressing. Not one of my favorites. I prefer the push on the accelerator stuff instead....from "Radar Love" to, no apologies, "Neutron Dance" because the lyrics are so 'effin absurd.
July 4, 200619 yr 3 Doors Down- Here without you, Loser Drowning Fish- Requiem for an Undying Love Susan Vega- Moonlight Shadow (lol) The Ataris- The Saddest Song Carlos Gardel- Por Una Cabeza Radiohead- Creep REM- Losing My Religion Green Day- Macy's Day Parade Snow Patrol- Run blink-182 - Adam's Song Papa Roach- Broken Home Oasis- Stop Crying Your Heart Out
