I think one would be better off buying a new electric car rather than trying to do a conversion. If your car runs of petrol it's because that's what it was designed to do, and any conversion is going to be really awkward and it's not going to deliver very good results. Where do you stick all those batteries for example? Buying parts for cars yourself is also more expensive than it is for manufacturers, so you're further reducing the financial reward of converting your car.

I was wondering, what does Porsche get out of being a part of the VW group? Do they use any of VW's technology? Wouldn't they be better of as an independent car manufacturer specialized in produced super cars? Are they profitable?

Tesla's stock price is going through the floor. It has lost a significant percentage of its value since September. I suppose it's due to the lower price of oil, which makes switching to electric vehicles less attractive. Would you invest in Tesla stock at the moment? I wouldn't. I think they're seriously over valued due to all the Sillicon Valley fanbois.

What's your favorite motor sport? F1 for me. I like the completely unusual design cars have, I like the fact that they compete in teams, and man, do they sound awesome. I've tried getting into bike races as well but I don't seem to care for them very much for some reason.

My thread about letting your kid practice motor sports seems to be a success, and most people there say they would let or even encourage their kid/s to get involved into such an activity, so the next question is... how much does it cost to give a kid a shot at some of the cheaper options, like go - karting? How often do those things break down anyway?

They use less fuel but they are more expensive and they also produce more polluting particles than petrol cars, and with diesel fuel now being as expensive, sometimes more expensive than petrol, I'm not sure why anyone would want to buy one these days.

Hello everyone, I'm happy to have stumbled across this community as it seems to be a great place to chat about my passion: cars. Unfortunately, for now, I'm stuck driving a 2006 Peugeot 206 , but I'll be looking at upgrading to a newer car by this time next year. I've always driven small cars and I continue to prefer them to the gas guzzling trucks because they're fairly cheap, easy to drive, burn little fuel and they're easy to park.

Diesels seem to be on their way out in Europe at least, with some cities like Paris wanting to get rid of them altogether within a decade or so, so I'm not sure what Land Rover is trying to achieve by introducing diesels in the US. They cost more than petrol cars, they cost more to maintain, and the savings you make from the lower fuel consumptions aren't something to get excited about as fules is fairly cheap in the US anyway. Weid move IMO and I expect this car to flop.

The price for a barrel of oil has nosedived over the past half a year or so, and that has started to be felt at the pump, with petrol and diesel prices being significantly lower than they were a year ago. Will this change drivers' behaviour, steering them toward gas guzzlers again because they'll be so much cheaper to run due to the lower fuel costs?

I haven't tested it myself, but it's exactly the sort of thing one would expect from a VW CC. German quality and reliability with Italian sexyness. The lack of an ipod interface would annoy the heck out of me as well, though, to be fair, I have a couple of local radio stations I really like.

Suppose your kids comes up to you today and tells you he/she wants to start driving go-karts with an aim of maybe becoming a pro in some form of motor sports in the future. Would you be happy to let him/her have a go at it? Would you be worried about his/her safety? Would you try to steer your kid towards other activities instead?
