I got 2 discounts when I picked up my SS. First was a GM employee discount and the other was $1500 off because it was a loaner car for the owner of the dealership so it had 1k miles on it already. The salesman said at the time that he wasn't sure how many discounts would be on the SS model but each of the other models of the Impala had some sort of discount at the time. I'm guessing since the SS isn't supposed to be a huge chunk of sales for GM they figure people buying them really want them and discounts aren't necessary.

I have one of the '06 SS Impala's and I can't complain about it at all. The gas mileage question - I got the car with just under 2k miles on it (demo driven by the dealership owner) and reset the MPG meter a few weeks ago. Driving about 90% city I'm getting 15mpg, getting out on the highway though it bumps the average up to around 20 something. I haven't had much highway time with it so I can't give an exact number.
