Pretty weak winter here in western NoDak. Very little snow and hasn't even hit -30.

Why Detroit Loses Money
I think this is where it all began. Politicians fighting for unions and supporting non union asian automakers create jobs in their state. Slowly breaking the back of our sleeping companies that are set in their ways and slow to change.

Consumer Reports: CTS tops BMW, Mercedes rivals
If only their ratings 'excellent' and 'very good' meant something. They never disclose their criteria so you can't judge for yourself. The best judge is you.

Wisconsin man's '91 Silverado set to hit 1 million miles
Here's a Chevrolet with 2 million+ miles. I've seen 2 or 3 of these pickups at 400K and one at 600k.

Should GM build the next Cobalt around a 3-Cylinder?
GM wan't all bad in the 80s and 90s. What other company matched them in fuel economy with V6 cars? Their 'low tech' pushrods do pretty well when mated to a 4 speed auto. I had 2 large cars with a 3.8 and 3.1 that got over 30mpg.

Toyota recalls 15,600 Tundras
In the upper midwest foreign cars must rust out after about 10 years. There are lots of old Buicks, Olds, and other GM and Ford cars, but many older foreign cars. A few older Accords, bur rarely camrys. I see old foreign cars down south, but not up here (MN and Dakotas).

Car and Driver Reviews Malibu LTZ
Malibu LTZ...just bought one in red jewel. It's pretty well loaded. The interior with the wood grain really set it apart from the Saturn. Pick it up Friday

6.2 in the trucks?
Well, when they get the 6.2 and 6 speed in a 1/2 ton non pickup with a decent box size (not the shorty on the Denali) I'm going to get one. The 5.3 pulls snowmobile trailers through the mountains alright, but the 6.2 would be a lot more fun.

A new Saturn in the Family
I think I WON'T be buying a Saturn based on dealer experience....unless I go to another town. I was going to buy an Aura 3 months ago, but I bought a house instead. So, I just went back this week to get the new car and they offered $3000 less for my Impala than 3 months ago, and they won't budge. I was even looking at the exact same Aura, which hadn't moved in 3 months. If the Chevrolet dealers can do better, I'll probably have a Malibu if they ever get any more in.

72 pick up 350 won't start
First 2 questions, Do you have gas at the carb? Do you have spark? If you have no gas, first check you fuel filter. Your fuel pump is located on the front left side of the engine below the exhaust manifold. Take the fuel line off the carb and see if it pumps gas when you crank. Take a plug out to see if it's wet. crank the motor with the plug out and touching the engine (for ground) and see it it sparks. If you have no spark and no HEI ignition (if it has points) file the points. They can corrode and not conduct. Good luck.

Toyota recalls 15,600 Tundras
It's always the suppliers fault with anything that happens to Toyota's. Toyota lovers will tell you that the reason they're starting to have some quality problems is because they're getting parts from US based suppliers. Ya right. Where are your quality checks, Toyota? You're rignt and why do you think that is? I know lots of people that put 300K miles on Buicks and Oldsmobiles, yet GM never gets credit for having reliable vehicles. Does this not happen in other parts of the country? Camry has been the best selling car for 10 years, but there aren't many 10+ year old ones around. There are many old GM and Ford cars around, where I live anyway. Toyota buy their reputation?

Toyota false advertising?
Had a friend that was goning to buy a Tundra. He didn't because he said the ads at the dealer showed options that weren't available and the sales people were stretching the truth. Look at the Tundra commercials, if that's not false or misleading advertising, I don't know what is.

So I was watching the Pats game...
Toyota returned the favor this week. On their 'toyotathon' commercials they had a guy drop an I beam on a 88-89 Chevy pickup for a tundra commercial. On a highlander ad a guy pushed an S10 Blazer off a parking ramp. They did have both the blazer and CK pickup un-badged. I suppose it's hard to find a older Toyota since their auto self destruct by rust feature works so well.

Autoblog First Drive: 08 Malibu
2 dealerships in an area of 100k people. I wonder if they're going to a rental fleet...I didn't think of asking at the time.

Autoblog First Drive: 08 Malibu
I stopped by the local dealer to see when they were getting their Malibu's. They said hopefully soon and that the first 10 were spoken for.

Two new powerful V8s on GM's NG C3XX pickups
I've had conversations with 'truck' guys that think they need to have the latest technology and think DOHC engines are the latest greatest thing and therefore they need to buy a Toyota or Nissan. I've explained that GM's OHV engines are not 60's technology but they just don't get it. GM's protecting it's market share by developing engines that these kinds of people will think is market leadership. Real pickup guys know pushrods can get the job done. I've seen lots of GM and Ford pushrod engines last for 300-400K. I've never seen a DOHC engine do this so I'm pretty interested in how the imports hold up especially in pickups that are working. I hope GM can keep the same formula for longevity in new DOHC's.

My 2008 Accord Impressions
Opinions are like @$$holes, everyone has one, so here's mine... I stopped by the Honda dealer because I was car shopping with some import loving friends and checked a new Accord out. From the outside I think it's one of the better looking Honda's ever built, it looks good. The rear end reminds me of some older smaller 4-door Saturns. I thought the interior was hideous. Center console is ugly and the radio is huge. I was surprised to see an uneven panel gap in the dash. Didn't drive it, the interior turned me off enough.

Buying a Saturn
Drove through Lunde's lot today (I live by Bismarck). They've got their best price on 08's 1500 below MSRP. If they don't want to deal here, I'll buy in Fargo.

I Need this to be answered.
I used to drive an '85 GMC 4x4 with a 165HP 305. Yep, all that power and 13mpg! It's actually still in great condition, although the 305 has been swapped for a mildly built 350.

Buying a Saturn
Thanks for all the comments, I wasn't sure if the salesperson knew what he was talking about. Funny thing happening in this town, Saturns are being sold by a Ford dealer. The owner of the Saturn dealer retired and sold the building and the owner of a Ford dealership picked up Saturn. So they're selling Saturn on a Ford lot until the new Saturn dealership is finished.

Buying a Saturn
Greetings folks. My wife has me looking at an 08 Aura. The dealer in town is new to Saturn. They tell me they don't budge much from the MSRP price...MSRP minus rebates is what you pay. At Saturn dealers, they usually have the no-haggle price, correct? Anyone have any advise for dealing on a Saturn? Thanks.

Toyota's Press goes to Chrysler
I wonder if Chrysler will start running fake adds of a Ram pulling a cargo box up a cliff. Some people really buy that stuff, more so than how good rebates are on US vehicles.
